To ensure each student is ready for the challenges of college, the College Coun- seling Office oversees college readiness curriculum for grades 9-12 and coordinates Parent Partnership University, which provides a series of college preparatory activities for families each year. The school also sponsors student trips to area colleges and universities, as well as to the annual spring AIMS (Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools) and JET (Jesuit Excellence Tour) college fairs. Community Service The experience of caring for and serving one’s neighbor is a key element in the personal development and spiritual growth of each Cristo Rey Jesuit student. Our community service program works in collabo- ration with organizations that serve the Greater Baltimore area, including soup kitchens and food pan- tries, Head Start and homeless shelters. Each student will have performed a minimum of 40 community service hours upon graduation. Professional Affiliations Cristo Rey Jesuit High School is approved by the Maryland State Department of Education and is proud to hold memberships in NACAC, PCACAC, National College Access Network (NCAN), National Partnership for Educational Access (NPEA), the Jesuit Schools Network (JSN), and the Association of Independent Maryland and D.C. Schools (AIMS). Graduate-at-Graduation Statement One of the distinguishing features of a Jesuit school is its Graduate-at-Graduation or “Grad-at-Grad” statement, articulating goals and characteristics that a Jesuit high school student should attain by gradu- ation. Jesuit high schools throughout the United States have established five Grad at Grad traits; Cristo Rey Jesuit adds one additional trait to reflect the growth our students experience through the Corporate Internship Program. Cristo Rey Jesuit’s Grad at Grad traits are: Open to Growth • Religious • Intellectually Competent • Loving • Committed to Justice • Work Experienced College persistence and alumni support Cristo Rey Jesuit High School exists to transform lives through a college-preparatory, Jesuit education. We empower students to use their education to affect change on their block, in the city of Baltimore and ultimately in the college they attend. Our goal is not to have students admitted to college, but to have them graduate from college. The Cristo Rey Network established the goal that 70% of all students will graduate with a Bachelors degree in six years. We are the largest Network in the country serving ONLY low-income students with the goal of college graduation. CRJ Baltimore takes this goal seriously and im- plements a robust college access curriculum in high school as well as transition support for our alumni once they are enrolled in college. Our Alumni Support Coordinator visits college campuses and checks in with our alumni across the region on a regular basis. We connect our alumni to campus-based resources and allow them to self-advocate and feel confident in the often confusing and overwhelming college landscape. With a demographic that typically has a 15% six year college graduation rate, we can claim a percentage three times higher. Our college persistence rate is equally impressive, with 82% percent of graduates from the classes of 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 still enrolled in college.
