Build quality France's own forests are responsible for all the woods that make up the Vigier Excalibur, bar the rosewood fingerboard. Cut and dried naturally for years Dean Baby V Baby V before use, and stored with strict humidity control, the ash body and 90 per Jackson KVX10 & cent maple neck are French through and through. DXMG The trademarked Vigier 10/90 Neck System (10 per cent carbon and 90 per Woodworm CTM cent wood) replaces the conventional truss rod with a dense strip of carbon. Vigier Ultra Italia MODULO TIPO 3 Vigier claims that the carbon used in its neck reinforcement is over three times stronger than the steel used in conventional truss rods. This may be true, and Italia Modulo Tipo 1 it's also be true that in the 10 years that this system has been in use, Vigier has Versoul & had very few neck problems. Ruokangas Henry & Duke Deluxe Yet I think sceptical British guitarists might still worry about buying a guitar Computer Music with no neck adjustment. Both of these ideas make sense, but I can't escape the fact that zero frets always remind me of the cheap bolt-on neck acoustics of yesteryear. The matt lacquer applied to the neck feels sexy and shows off the headstock's deep figuring superbly. A set of what appear to be Schaller locking machineheads adorn the not-unattractive headstock, and a single roller string-tree looks after the top pair of strings. 1 2 3 4 [Next>>] http://www.intermusic.com/article.asp?ReviewId=211&ArticleTable=Reviews&Channel=GTR (1 sur 2) [23/04/2002 09:30:32] intermusic.com Artists Gear Index Auctions Forums Gig Guide Search: Home > Guitars > Gear > Guitars > Review Random link: Eric Clapton Vigier Excalibur Special Acoustics Continued... Even with Woodworm CTM quite severe use, its partnership with the locking machineheads manages to Vigier Ultra keep everything in tune. Acoustically, the Excalibur rings out loud and long and every bit of that energy is translated by the pickups. Sustain can be taken for granted, and my scepticism of the 10/90 neck system Dean Baby V Baby V is beginning to wane. The recessed output jack is a great idea for keeping your Jackson KVX10 & lead out of the way and preventing accidental unplugging, but it does make it difficult to rest the guitar on anything other than a stand. • Karl Schneider – Rio Marcel Bianchi and the First European Electric Guitar
Karl Schneider – Rio Marcel Bianchi and the first European electric guitar « As he walked by the streets of Basel in 1944 he saw in a music shop window a hollow body guitar with a built-in pickup, a copy of the Gibson played by that American musician he had already heard many times: Charlie Christian. He also bought a black lap-steel built in Zurich, another copy of American Rickenbackers and Gibsons. Bringing them back to France at the end of the war, he was the first French guitarist to play on electric guitars.” Phil Dubois, November 18th 2003 http://minilien.fr/a0lopn Even before we started to work on the book “Guitares Jacobacci, un atelier de lutherie à Paris “ we knew that the guitar that Marcel Bianchi was holding on the first Major Conn RV advertisements issued on Jazz Magazine in 1957 was not a Jacobacci. Not only being such a great luthier and an excellent connoisseur of American brands, Roger Jacobacci was a key authority on European guitar makers of the 50s. As we asked him in April 2005 about Marcel Bianchi’s guitar, he answered with no hesitation “they were Rios, made in Switzerland”. Searching for another guitar, Sacha Distel’s own Jacobacci R. Gimenes, we met Simon Lustigman in January 2008. A professional musician in Paris and Radio-Luxemburg in the 50s and 60s, he was befriended with all the fellow musicians of the time and was also a sale person at the Major Conn shop, rue Dupperé in Pigalle. As we showed him the picture of the guitar player with the fringed jacket he unfortunately didn’t recognize him but confirmed that the guitar was indeed a Rio, made in Switzerland.

Voices of the Electric Guitar Don Curnow MPA 475 12-12-12 Intro The solid body electric guitar is the result of many guitars and innovations that came before it, followed by the guitar's need for volume to compete with louder instruments, particularly when soloing. In the 1930s, jazz and its various forms incorporated the guitar, but at the time there was no way for an acoustic guitar to compete with the volume of a trumpet or saxophone, let alone with an orchestra of trumpets and saxophones, such as in big band jazz. As a result, amplification of the guitar was born and the electric guitar has been evolving since, from a hollow bodied ES-150 arch-top with a pick-up used by Charlie Christian to the Les Paul played by Slash today.

PAUL ALCANTARA MEETS SIX PRETENDERS TO THE SELMER CROWN, AND DISCOVERS THAT THE ORIGINAL BIG MAC WAS ‘FABRIQUE EN FRANCE’ Built originally by ... the Selmer Company, Maccaferri’s ‘Orchestre’ model and later, Selmer’s own design, have achieved the near mythical status generally reserved for the finest vintage Gibsons and Martins. Inseparable from the Gypsy Jazz of Django Reinhardt (take a look at this month’s Vintage & Collectable feature for more on Django, Selmer and Maccaferri), they are more popular today than ever. With originals now changing hands for five-figure sums, here we look at six contemporary copies ranging from the £499 Saga Gitane to the £4000+ Dupont Vieille Reserve. The guitars break down into two main types; D and O-soundhole types and we have three of each. First up are the Ds… The Saga Gitane D-500, Dell Arte ‘Anouman’ and Dupont MC50E are all interpretations of the Selmer guitar that Maccaferri designed back in 1932. Though not intended as authentic replicas, all three feature the original’s slotted headstock, 12-fret neck, horizontal cutaway and D-shaped soundhole. Other period-correct details include a zero fret, studded tailpiece and fingerboard extension. Then come the Os. The Dupont ➔ MD50, Dell Arte ‘Dark Eyes’, and Dupont Vieille Reserve Brazilian take the mid-1930s, post-Maccaferri Selmer as their point of departure. All three have the slotted headstock, 14-fret neck, zero fret, horizontal cutaway, small oval soundhole and studded tailpiece of the original.
