The hotel scene in the French capital is continually being updated as new establishments open and existing hotels are renovated and refurbished to meet the expectations and needs of visitors. A trend-setting city, a city of culture, history and dreams, the French capital has accommodation to offer everyone their ideal stay in Paris. With more than 2,020 approved hotels in Greater Paris, i.e. more than 119,000 rooms, as well as more than 150 aparthotels, 3 campsites and 50 youth accommodation centres, Paris can boast one of the biggest accommodation capacities in Europe. NEW PLACES: DYNAMIC AND CREATIVE PARIS! New districts to explore, interiors reflecting the latest French design and lifestyle trends, comfort and well-being, excellent service, and cultural interest: Paris hotels have much to offer, and undertake creative makeovers to give visitors the exceptional experience they are seeking. ACCOMMODATION Revamped hotels offer great stays in Paris, with enhanced comfort and fabulous decor. Here is a selection. In 2018, Paris finally witnessed the reopening of the iconic Lutétia, on the Left Bank just opposite Le Bon Marché department store. This great Parisian hotel with a PARIS turbulent past has married its art nouveau and art deco-style interiors with all the comforts of the modern age. The renowned French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte oversaw this restoration campaign, creating 184 bedrooms and suites, a more spacious brasserie and a new spa. The name of the luxurious piano bar ‘Le Joséphine’, close to the entrance, is an allusion to Josephine Baker, one of the hotel’s many legendary guests during the roaring twenties, when the hotel was a true pioneer in the sector. Another veritable Parisian institution in the same neighbourhood has undergone a facelift: the Madison Hôtel. Celebrities like Albert Camus, Édith Piaf and Jean Cocteau once stayed in this elegant hotel with a view of the spires of Saint-Sulpice and the church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Its 50 bedrooms and suites have all been restored but remain faithful to the art deco style that has characterized this hotel since the 1930s. The Renaissance Paris Vendôme of the Marriott Group has just reopened after several months of renovations which provided its 97 bedrooms with a complete makeover. This 5-star luxury hotel, located between the Jardin des Tuileries and the rue Saint-Honoré, has complimented its 18th-century style with contemporary touches thanks to designer Didier Gomez. The new cocktail bar and the restaurant Balagan are sure to please guests and visitors, just like the hotel’s renowned spa: the Vendôme Spa. The Hôtel & Spa Royal Madeleine, located on the monumental square of the same name, has just completed its makeover. This 4-star hotel has renovated its fifty or so bedrooms, the winter garden and spa-swimming pool. The result is an elegant, modern and distinctly feminine style. The hotel bar can now be accessed directly via the Passage Puteaux and the restaurant, designed in the spirit of a winter garden, now boasts a stunning new glass roof. 2 → Press file 2019 – Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau Close to the Arc de Triomphe, hidden away in a charming cobblestoned passageway in the Ternes district is the Doisy Hôtel which also underwent renovations in 2018. Two young interior decorators (formerly with Elle Décoration) oversaw the design of the 33 bedrooms, resulting in a chic but relaxed ambience where stylish touches abound: wicker, brass, marble, and wallpaper with plant motifs, and more. The Hôtel Grand Powers, close to the Champs-Élysées, has chosen to showcase the charm of its large volumes, mouldings and hundred-year-old fireplaces. This 5-star hotel has been renovated in powder pink, pale green and blue hues. It also boasts a new café with an impressive snack menu and a luxurious spa. In 2018 the palace-hotel Le Bristol also completed its renovation campaign which lasted seven years. After the three restaurants, spa, and French formal garden, this prestigious hotel has put the finishing touches to the new decoration of its bedrooms and suites. Architecture agency MM Design has combined the hotel’s distinctive refined Louis-XVI style with cutting-edge technology and contemporary touches, ensuring the ACCOMMODATION perfect marriage of comfort and beauty. Last but not least, the Hyatt Group has also renovated two of its hotels in Paris: the Hyatt Paris Madeleine has reduced its number of bedrooms to 85 in order to offer its guests more spacious rooms. With its 995 bedrooms and suites, the Hyatt Regency Etoile, has been completely transformed so as to take possession of the famous tower PARIS occupied a few years ago by the former Hôtel Concorde Lafayette. Scattered throughout the capital, they enable visitors to experience Paris in all its newness and originality. Place de la Madeleine: more attractive than ever! Towards the end of 2018, Fauchon unveiled its first ‘gastronomic’ hotel on the Place de la Madeleine, opposite its iconic delicatessen. Fauchon l’Hôtel, nestled behind a Haussmannian-style building, was designed by architect Richard Martinet, who specializes in the creation of palace and luxury hotels. The brand’s signature colours – bright pink, black and gold – provide the tone for this 5-star hotel with 54 bedrooms (including 22 suites) and boasting a Carita spa. In true Fauchon style, the minibar in each of the bedrooms is filled with house specialities. Guests can also take advantage of the gourmet bar and private dinners with the chef on hand to cater to every taste. Only 100 metres from the Place de la Madeleine, another remarkable venue has created quite a stir: located in a private mansion between a courtyard and a garden, is the very ACCOMMODATION chic Alfred Sommier, a 5-star establishment named after the industrialist who lived here in the 19th century. One of his descendants has transformed the building into a luxury hotel while retaining all the charm of a family residence. Behind the imposing double doors, guests can discover marquetry, parquet flooring and antique mirrors, a bar in the former smoking room and 80 bedrooms, some of which boast balconies and stunning views of the Eiffel Tower. PARIS Here come the artists Just next to the Champs-Élysées is the new sumptuous Hôtel de Berri, part of the Starwood chain’s Luxury Collection. The building, dating from the 1930s, was the former residence of haute-couture designer Elsa Schiaparelli. It houses 75 bedrooms, including 35 spacious suites measuring up to 110 m2. The interiors have been subtly inspired by fashion designers, such as Schiaparelli herself, Coco Chanel and Jeanne Lanvin. The new Hôtel Niepce - Curio by Hilton in Montparnasse also pays tribute to renowned and talented figures, particularly female ones. The hotel exhibits portraits such as those by Janine Niepce, a reporter-photographer who passed away in 2007, leaving behind a highly eclectic collection of famous and lesser-known female figures. New stars In addition to the Niepce, the Hilton Group has opened a second Parisian address bearing the Curio Collection label. The Maison Astor Paris has been named in honour of wealthy American hotel-owner, John Jacob Astor, heir of the influential family of the same name and owner of the Waldorf-Astoria in New York. He established this Parisian hotel in the 8th arrondissement in 1907 but died on-board the Titanic several years later. Another 5-star establishment with strong ties to the past is the Hotel Bowmann, located on the Boulevard Haussmann, a stone’s throw from the large department stores. With gilded mouldings, Louis-XVI furniture, Saarinen chairs and more, the Bowmann offers an elegant mix of styles, both classical and contemporary. This marriage between tradition and innovation has clearly influenced the design of its 48 bedrooms, including a sumptuous 100-m2 suite with a large terrace, outdoor Jacuzzi and unrivalled views of Paris. 4 → Press file 2019 – Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau The Starck Touch Philippe Starck has already brought a touch of magic to several Parisian establishments such as the Royal Monceau, Le Meurice and Mama Shelter. In 2018, the tireless designer once again collaborated on two new hotels. The Brach Hotel is an ambitious project, located in the 16th arrondissement and part of the EVOK Hotels Collection. A former postal sorting office measuring 7,000 m2 has been transformed into a 5-star luxury hotel that oozes warmth and character.
