If you think a child is being bullied, talk to the child or an adult who can help. No child should have to suffer because he or she is being bullied. The Difference between Tattling and Reporting Students are often afraid to report what they see because they are afraid they are tattling. Children should understand the difference between tattling and reporting so they can take action when needed. Tattling is usually defined as trying to get someone else in trouble. Reporting is defined as getting help to protect someone who is being hurt or is in a dangerous situation. How Families Can Help ] Talk to your child about bullying. Help your child understand what it means to be bullied. ] Explain the difference between tattling and reporting to your child. Encourage your child to report any actions that appear harmful or dangerous. ] If you see or hear about bullying at school, tell a teacher, administrator, school psychologist, social worker, or counselor. ] Download the KnowBullying app from SAMHSA.gov ] Be aware that bullying can take place through technology, especially phones and social media, and be prepared to take steps if your child is bullying or being bullied.
