Friday, February 22, 2019 · 7:35 PM CST The Family Arena · St. Charles, Missouri St. Louis Ambush vs. Orlando SeaWolves Broadcast: masl.tv St. Louis Ambush MASL Game 122 Orlando SeaWolves 8-8 OVERALL St. Louis Ambush Game 17 5-5 OVERALL 4-3 HOME St. Louis Ambush Home Game 8 2-3 HOME 4-5 AWAY Orlando SeaWolves Game 11 3-2 AWAY 2-1 HEAD TO HEAD Orlando SeaWolves Away Game 6 1-2 HEAD TO HEAD TONIGHT’S GAME • Tonight’s game is the fourth and final meeting between the Ambush and SeaWolves during the 2018-19 regular season. • A victory by the Ambush tonight would set a new franchise record for wins in a single season. The club’s best season was 2014-15, when they went 8-12. • There were 20 games in the 2014-15 season, so their 8-12 record produced a .400 winning percentage. There are 24 games this season, so the Ambush will need 10 total wins to surpass their winning percentage record. (Ten wins this season would result in a .417 winning percentage at the end of the season.) • Tonight’s game is also the fourth in a seven-game home stand for the Ambush. It is the longest home stand of the season.

THE PLAYOFF PICTURE • Tonight’s game has playoff implications as the Ambush, SeaWolves and Kansas City Comets come into the weekend locked in a tie for second place – and the second playoff spot – in the MASL South Central Division. • The Ambush play two games this weekend. They host the Florida Tropics on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. CT here at the Family Arena, while the SeaWolves travel across the state to duel the Comets on Sunday in Independence.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: AMBUSH • Forward Justin Stinson leads the team in points (22) and is second in goals (14). He is a legitimate candidate for Rookie of the Year. He earned a spot on the Sporturf MASL Team of the Week last week. Has five goals and two assists in last three games. • Forward Zach Reget leads the team in goals (16), is second in points (21) leads in game-winning goals (2) and currently leads all rookies in the MASL in goals scored. He’s been named MASL Player of the Week once, named to the Sporturf Team of the Week twice and earned honorable mention four times. Like Stinson, Reget is a solid candidate for Rookie of the Year. Has one goal and four assists in last three games. • Midfielder Lucas Almeida leads the team in assists (12) and is third in points (18). His five-point game against the Comets on February 9 earned him a spot on last week’s Sporturf MASL Team of the Week. Has three goals and five assists in last three games.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: SEAWOLVES • Midfielder Gordy Gurson leads the team in goals (18), assists (11), points (29), points per game average (2.9) and game-winning goals (3). Has eight goals and three assists in his last three games. A colorful personality on the field, Gordy loves to antagonize the fans who once cheered for him when he was a member of the Ambush. • Forward Osvaldo Rojas is second on the team in goals (13) and tied for second in points (18). He has two goals and three assists in his last three games. Has two goals and three assists in last three games. • Midfielder Thiago Freitas has eight goals and seven assists since being acquired from Harrisburg on December 25. Has five goals and two assists in last three games. SPORTURF MASL TEAM OF THE WEEK / PLAYER OF THE WEEK St. Louis Ambush players earning Sporturf MASL Team of the Week, Player of the Week or Honorable Mention during the 2018-19 regular season. THE ST. LOUIS AMBUSH

The St. Louis Ambush began as an expansion club in the Major League (MISL) for the 2013-14 season and joined the MASL for the 2014-15 season. The 2018-19 season is the team's sixth. The Ambush resurrected the name of the original St. Louis Ambush, who played in the National Professional Soccer League from 1992 to 2000 and won the league championship for the 1994-95 season. They remain the only St. Louis professional soccer team to win a league title. The Ambush play all home games at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri, a western suburb of St. Louis. The ownership of the club is 100% local.

THE MAJOR ARENA SOCCER LEAGUE

The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) has roots in the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL). The PASL began in 1997 and today serves as the developmental league for the MASL. October 2008 marked the debut of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL). To distinguish the PASL pro division from the PASL premier division, they were often referred to as PASL-Pro and PASL-Premier. At the conclusion of the 2013-14 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) season, the MISL announced on March 17, 2014 that they would not have a 2014-15 season. The Pennsylvania Roar folded and the six remaining MISL teams (Baltimore Blast, Milwaukee Wave, Missouri Comets, Rochester Lancers, St. Louis Ambush and Syracuse Silver Knights) joined with PASL-Pro teams to form the new Major Arena Soccer League (MASL).

The Major Arena Soccer League represents the highest level of professional arena soccer in the world. The MASL features teams across North America, with 17 teams playing coast-to-coast in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The MASL is currently incorporated as a 501(c)6 not for profit corporation formed to promote the business and sport of arena soccer.

THE INDOOR GAME

Professional indoor soccer was developed to appeal to sports fans around the world. The indoor game combines technical skills and strategy that appeals to fans of outdoor soccer, but adds speed and excitement, along with the “no ties” scoring model that appeals to fans of other sports. The fast-paced, fiercely competitive game is played on artificial turf on a hockey- rink-sized field surrounded by dasher boards and Plexiglas with eight-foot high by 14-foot wide goals receded into the end boards. Creative dribbling, pinpoint passing, acrobatic goalkeeping and rugged defensive play are all skills demonstrated by MASL players. A typical MASL game features end-to-end-action resulting in approximately 60 shots and 11 goals per game. Each game consists of four 15-minute quarters. Other unique characteristics of the MASL include action-packed power plays and free substitution of players while play continues.

The first recorded “indoor soccer” match was held in 1885 in a roller skating rink in Newark, New Jersey. Since that time, a variety of leagues have staged sporadic indoor soccer games and tournaments. In 1950, the National Soccer League held a complete season of indoor soccer games, including some on local television. The modern era of professional indoor soccer commenced in 1978, when the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) began play with six US teams, coinciding in 1979 with the NASL's indoor league, comprised of 10 teams. Games were played in four 15-minute quarters.

THE MASL SEASON

The 2018-19 MASL regular season began on November 30, 2018 and concludes on April 14, 2019. Each MASL team plays a 24-game season consisting of 12 home games and 12 road games. Playoffs will begin at the conclusion of the regular season and the playoff schedule will be announced when playoff teams are known and arena schedules have been locked in.
