  • Apple Label Discography
Apple Label Discography 100-800 series (Capitol numbering series) Apple Records was formed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr in 1968. The Apple label was intended as a vehicle for the Beatles, their individual recordings and the talent they discovered. A great deal of what appeared on Apple was pretty self indulgent and experimental but they did discover a few good singers and groups. James Taylor recorded his first album on the label. Doris Troy recorded a good soul album and there are 2 albums by John Lewis and the Modern Jazz Quartet. The Beatlesque group Badfinger also issued several albums on the label, the best of which was “Straight Up”. Apple Records fell apart in management chaos in 1974 and 1975 and a bitter split between the Beatles over the management of the company. Once the lawyers got involved everybody was suing everybody else over the collapse. The parody of the Beatles rise and the disintegration of Apple is captured hilariously in the satire “All You Need Is Cash: the story of the Rutles”. The Apple label on side 1 is black with a picture of a green apple on it, black printing. The label on side 2 is a picture of ½ an apple. From November 1968 until early 1970 at the bottom of the label was “MFD. BY CAPITOL RECORDS, INC. A SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES INC. USA”. From Early 1970 to late 1974, at the bottom of the label is “MFD. BY APPLE RECORDS” From late 1974 through 1975, there was a notation under the “MFD.

1 Playlist July 31st, 2016 2 9AM The Beatles - All I’ve Got to Do – With The Beatles (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John Written entirely by John Lennon and introduced to the other Beatles at the session at which it was recorded, The Beatles never played the song again. Lennon has said this soulful ballad was his attempt at making a Smokey Robinson song. Recorded on September 11, 1963 in 14 takes with an overdub (presumably George’s introductory guitar chord) becoming “take 15” and the finished version. “All I’ve Got to Do” marked a rare instance in which John’s lead vocal was not double-tracked. On U.S. album: Meet The Beatles! - Capitol LP The Beatles - Money (That’s What I Want) – With The Beatles (Bradford-Gordy) Lead vocal: John Originally recorded by Barrett Strong and released as a single on Motown’s Tamla and Anna labels in 1959 and 1960 respectively, peaking at #23 in 1960. It was a part of The Beatles’ live repertoire from 1960 to 1964. On July 18, 1963, the group, with George Martin on piano, performed the song live in the studio -- vocals and all -- for six full takes, the final take being deemed the best. Although The Beatles involvement with the 3 recorded track lasted this one day, George Martin continued to add overdubs and tinker with his piano part until the song was completed to his satisfaction on September 30, 1963. On U.S. album: The Beatles’ Second Album - Capitol LP The Beatles - I Should Have Known Better - A Hard Day’s Night (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John Following their triumphant visit to America The Beatles were thrust back to work.

1 The Beatles On Apple Vol.15 Playlist May 15th 2016 OPEN/9AM The Beatles - Hey Jude - Non-LP Track (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: Paul 2 The Beatles’ eighteenth single release for EMI, the first on the Apple Records label. Paul McCartney’s masterpiece. The 7 minute, 11 second track was the longest released by the Beatles up until that time, and the song broke wide open the usual two to three minute mold that had long been the standard for pop singles. Paul got the idea for the song while driving to visit Cynthia and Julian Lennon. He wrote the lyrics as a message of encouragement to young Julian while his parents were in the throes of a very public separation. Paul wanted to stay friends, so he planned a visit. Cynthia was still living in John’s Kenwood estate, and since Paul usually wrote songs on the way there to collaborate with his writing partner, he fell into the same routine. Paul: “I started with the idea ‘Hey Jules,’ which was Julian, don’t make it bad, take a sad song and make it better. Hey, try and deal with this terrible thing. I knew it was not going to be easy for him. I always feel sorry for kids in divorce. The Beatles - Revolution - Non-LP Track (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John The Beatles’ eighteenth single release for EMI, their first on the Apple Records label. John Lennon lobbied hard to get his magnificent rocker on the A-side of the band’s summer 1968 single, but by any standard, Paul’s “Hey Jude” was an unbeatable choice for the A-side.

  • Spiritual Scientist
THE SPIRITUAL SCIENTIST A Cyber Magazine for Those Who Think Vol 1 Issue 16 The trout is caught by the fisherman’s lure, the mouse by cheese. A tragic irony of the struggle for existence is that living beings are often destroyed by what they desire. But at least the fish and the mouse have excuses: the bait and the cheese look like sustenance. Also the fish and the mouse do not know in advance that they will be trapped. Humans seldom have either of these excuses. The temptations that wreck their lives are quite often pure indulgences that are known to be dangerous. For example, no one has to smoke for survival and almost all smokers are aware that smoking is dangerous. TRAGICALLY TRAPPED Consider the following World Health Organization statistics: Tobacco kills nearly 10,000 people worldwide every day. By 2020 it is predicted that tobacco use will cause over 12% of all deaths globally. This is more deaths worldwide than HIV, tuberculosis, maternal mortality, motor vehicle accidents, suicide and homicide combined. Half of those who start smoking in adolescence will die in middle age, losing around 22 years of normal life expectancy. Add the facts that an average cigarette contains 401 poisons and 43 cancer-causing chemicals and that there are around 1.1 billion smokers in the world (about one-third of the global population aged 15 and over) and we have quite a sobering picture of the world around us. The statistics about other self-destructive behavioral patterns – alcoholism, substance abuse and suicide - are equally, if not more, alarming.
