ST. LOUIS BACKGROUND: St. Louis is a city in Eastern with a metropolitan population of 2.8 million people. It is the largest urban area in Missouri and 16th‐largest in the United States. Founded in 1764 by the French and named after King Louis IX of France, it lies just south of the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers in what is today the . Nicknamed the "Gateway to the West" for its role in the westward expansion of the United States, the city gave the moniker in 1965 to the new Gateway built as part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial; the Arch has become the iconic image of St. Louis.

Lambert St. Louis International Airport (STL) is located 13 miles (20 km), Northwest of the meeting location. Baggage Claim & ground transportation will be located immediately outside the terminal on the Lower level.

You will be responsible for your flight tickets unless you ask us to arrange your ticket by email. You should plan to arrive in St. Louis on October 10th.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION:

You will be responsible for arranging your own ground transportation between the airport and the hotel for this meeting. Respective institutions will reimburse you for this and other incidental costs upon the provision of all travel receipts.

There are two good transportation solutions: The Metrolink Shuttle and Taxis. MetroLink (Upper Level ) is the St. Louis metropolitan region's light rail system. You may purchase your fare from a Ticket Vending Machine (One‐Ride Tickets and a Two‐Hour Pass). The approximate cost of the Metrolink from St. Louis International Airport (STL) is $2.25 USD one‐way. Travelers can make payment with their credit cards or cash at each kiosk. Keep your validated ticket while you are on the train. Passengers who board without possessing valid fare may be issued a citation and be required to pay a fine.

When using the Metrolink from the STL airport, use the Red Line to reach the Parkview Hotel. Exit at the Central West End station, walk up the stairs and turn right onto Euclid Ave. At the first traffic light, Applebee’s restaurant and the Parkview Hotel are on the right. Enjoy your stay.

Taxi (Upper Level): The Metropolitan Taxicab Commission to provide first class service for all our passengers and airport travelers. The average taxi fare from STL to the Parkview Hotel is approximately $40.00 USD each way with a travel time of 20‐30 minutes depending on traffic.

Forest Park is located just west of the Medical Center, is one of the largest urban parks in the nation covering an area of 1,293 acres and safest to experience during the day. It is home to many of St. Louis's most popular attractions: the Saint Louis Zoological Park; the ; the ; the horticultural conservatory; several lakes, and scenic open areas. Forest Park underwent a multi‐million dollar renovation in 2004 for the centennial of the St. Louis World's Fair.

The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial is a 90.96‐acre (368,100 m2) national park located on the downtown riverfront where the city was first founded in 1764. It commemorates the westward growth of the United States between 1803 and 1890 and home of the Gateway Arch, which is the most recognizable structure in the city. It was designed by noted architect and completed on October 28, 1965. At 630 feet (192 m), it is the tallest manmade monument in the United States. Located below the Arch is the Museum of Westward Expansion, which contains an extensive collection of artifacts.
