Keila is interested in innovative solutions and the improvement of the living and working environment in order to attract more people to live and work here. Keila wants to be a pilot region in Estonia for the development and application of green hydrogen technology in transport, energy, and industrial processes as it sees great perspective in stimulating local economic development as well as contributing to national environmental and climate policy goals. -
Stadler Inaugurated Its New Factory in Belarus
MEDIA RELEASE Fanipol, 20 November 2014 Stadler inaugurated its new factory in Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus and Peter Spuhler, owner and CEO of Stadler Rail Group have today ceremonially inaugurated the new rolling stock manufacturing factory of Stadler established in Fanipol, Belarus. The new plant is responsible for the production of broad gauge rolling stock for CIS countries, including the starting project for the manufacturing of 21 double decker EMUs for Russian airport railways operator Aeroexpress. The maximum output of the factory at full capacity reaches the 120 carbodies per annum. The value of investment is EUR 76 million, while the number of employees is 600 people. Stadler decided to found a subsidiary and establish a factory in Belarus in order to supply dynamically developing CIS countries with the broad gauge products of the group. The reason behind establishing the factory in Fanipol was the available qualified workforce, its proximity to broad gauge countries, and the country’s customs union with Russia and Kazakhstan. The subsidiary was established in 2012 under the name of OJSC Stadler Minsk as a joint venture, originally with the majority ownership of Stadler Rail AG and the minority ownership Minsk Oblast Executive Committee. Later Stadler bought up the minority shares and became 100% owner of the Belarusian subsidiary. The value of investment Stadler has up till now performed in Belarus is totalling to EUR 76 million. The subsidiary currently employs altogether 600 people. Within the group OJSC Stadler Minsk is responsible for the production of broad gauge rolling stock ordered by customers operating in CIS countries. -

Discarding the Names of Parents and Godparents Annika Hussar Estonia Abstract There were extensive changes in names and naming patterns during the 19th century. In Estonia, in addition to other significant changes, the names chosen for children were less and less influenced by the surrounding community. In other countries, the practice of giving children their godparents’ name has been researched by Smith-Bannister (1997); Garðarsdóttir (1999); Hacker (1999); Sangoï (1999); and van Poppel, Bloothooft, Gerritzen, and Verduin (1999). Social relationships played a far bigger role in the city than in the rural areas; thus the tradition of giving children their godparents’ names was preserved better in the cities. The parents’ choice was not regulated by the Lutheran church either. In Estonia, the practice of giving children double names spread only at the end of the 19th century; thus the emergence of modern names removed the names of the parents, grandparents and godparents from usage, especially in the case of girls’ names. *** For three to four hundred years, until mid-19th century, Estonians had been using names that the Germans had imported during Christianization. These Christian names were adopted in the 14th to 16th centuries (Rätsep 1982). The adopted Low German names were either already phonotactically suitable to the Estonian ear or they were adapted in their usage. The size of the stock of names used during that time was small. Researchers have pointed to the fact that between the 16th to 18th centuries and the first half of the 19th century there were indeed few names used, especially female names. -

Take a pilgrimage in West Harjumaa The westward routes across Harjumaa are to be recommended, and run mainly away from major highways, allowing anyone using them to enjoy the full beauty of Harjumaa, its nature and its various cultural sights. West Harjumaa is especially rich in manors, but it also has a good many new urban areas. The view when leaving Tallinn is of an entire shoreline featuring an impressive limestone bank, which alternates with beautiful sandy beaches in Vääna-Jõesuu, Keila-Joa, Kloogaranna, Lohusalu and Laulasmaa. Due to the fact that the aim of the pilgrimage is to introduce the beautiful shrines of Harjumaa, we will not take the trail that runs along the shoreline. PILGRIMAGE ROUTES IN WEST HARJUMAA ROUTE Tallinn (Viru Square) - Keila - Paldiski - Padise - Harju-Risti - Riisipere - Hageri - Tallinn Tallinna The pilgrimage to Harjumaa starts from Tallinn and heads off towards the city of Keila. You can go there by train, bike or on foot, and if these options are not suitable for you, all of the shrines can be accessed by car, although you might miss an interesting natural or cultural sight if you take the car and drive along the highways. If you start your pilgrimage on a bike, you must first take Paldiski Road to the Haabersti roundabout. You can also use public transport, using trolleybus No. 6 from the city centre or No. 7 from Balti Jaam railway station. To the left from the roundabout is the Õismäe residential area. To begin to leave the city, you have to take the Paldiski road, to the right of which is Lake Harku. -

Corridor policy approaches have been adopted also on regional cross-border programmes to improve connectivity. This report has been made as a part of Reinforcing Eastern Finland-Estonia Transport Corridor (REFEC), which is an ERDF funded project under the Interreg Central Baltic Programme 2014–2020 in the priority Well-connected region. The REFEC project supports the transport corridor by mapping the cargo potential and impact of the activated corridor, and most importantly, conducting different concrete activities that aim to remove obstacles in the establishment of the Loviisa-Kunda roro connection.
