Most recently, he published a lengthy profile of Victoria Nuland, America’s top diplomat for the crisis in Ukraine. Mr. Hudson has also appeared on CNN, MSNBC, BBC, C-SPAN, Fox News radio and other broadcast outlets.

2 Mr. Hudson owes a lot of his journalism career to a 2008 chance encounter at a lecture given by Lawrence Scott Sheets, NPR’s former Moscow bureau chief and Michigan State University alum. Mr. Hudson asked him for advice on how to become a foreign correspondent and Lawrence Scott Sheets recommended spending the summer in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia writing stories for a local radio station he helped start in Tbilisi. This resulted in a three month stint in the tiny Caucasus nation, which ended on August 8, 2008 -- the day Russian forces blindsided the world and invaded Georgia in a five day war that decimated Tbilisi’s military and killed and wounded hundreds of citizens. Luckily, Mr. Hudson managed to slip across the Georgia-Abkhazia boundary line and return to Tbilisi, where he visited the hospital rooms of injured soldiers and interviewed local citizens and officials living in a state of war. Mr. Hudson collected those accounts for a story published in Salon.com that ran on August 12, the final day of hostilities between Russia and Georgia. This exposure helped put Mr. Hudson on the radar of The Atlantic magazine.
