Les hommages pleuvent de toutes parts : compositeurs, musiciens, politiciens ou simples mélomanes, aucun ne trouve assez de mots pour exprimer son désarroi face à cette perte immense. Il est vrai que, de son vivant même, Gioacchino Rossini est devenu une légende, lui qui, après avoir composé des chefs-d'œuvres immortels, dont plus de trente opéras, a décidé, dès 1830, de se retirer en n'écrivant plus que pour ses amis. Cette longue « retraite » voit naître tout de même des œuvres extrêmement célèbres telles que le Stabat Mater (1841) ou la Petite Messe Solennelle (1864). L'Italie est en deuil Verdi souhaite un hommage au maître digne de son talent, de son génie. Non pas un simple concert hommage ou des discours... Il faut une œuvre monumentale qui rappelle au monde, aux générations futures, à quel point Rossini était immense. -

She also wrote numerous articles about the guitar, and corresponded with other musicians and enthusiasts about the instrument throughout her long career. The Vahdah Olcott-Bickford Collection documents Olcott-Bickford’s professional life as a classical guitarist, an avid member of various organizations in the United States, her work with guitarists around the world, and her personal life. The collection includes scores, letters, photographs, newspaper clippings, receipts, articles, lecture notes, and guest books, and dates from 1874-1980. Biographical Information: Ethel Lucretia Olcott was born on October 17, 1885 in Norwalk, Ohio. She was three years old when she and her parents moved to Los Angeles, California. At the age of eight she started guitar lessons with George Lindsay, a well-known classic guitarist. -

Antonio Guarnieri Avevo sette anni quando andai per la prima volta al Teatro alla Scala di Milano. Quando mi sono affacciato al parapetto del loggione, che è la fila di posti più vicina al soffitto, ho visto dall'alto, piccolissimi e lontani, tanti musicisti e un uomo che, agitando il suo ditino, scatenava suoni meravigliosi. Si trattava dei Notturni di Debussy […]; in particolare mi colpì la musica del secondo notturno, Feste, con un suono di trombe che arriva in crescendo da molto lontano, come una magia. Arrivato a casa, ho chiesto chi era quel piccolo omino che stava su una pedana rossa e sembrava onnipotente: era un grande direttore d'orchestra, Antonio Guarnieri. Claudio Abbado, La casa dei suoni, Babalibri, 2007 (ridotto da Wikipedia) Antonio Guarnieri è nato a Venezia il 1º febbraio 1880. Direttore d’orchestra, violoncellista e compositore. Conseguito il diploma di violoncello proseguì gli studi in composizione ed organo sotto la guida di Marco Enrico Bossi. A Monaco di Baviera durante un periodo di perfezionamento ebbe modo di conoscere e penetrare quel mondo mitteleuropeo che avrebbe poi frequentato nel corso della sua carriera. Tornato in Italia conobbe il pianista e compositore Giuseppe Martucci ed entrò a far parte come violoncellista del Quartetto che di Martucci portava il nome. Nel 1903 Guarnieri mosse i primi passi come direttore d’orchestra durante una tournée in Italia condotta da Amilcare Zanella. L’insegnamento di Zanella insieme a quello di Bossi e Martucci formò in maniera definitiva il gusto e l’attenzione del Guarnieri per la musica strumentale italiana che continuò ad eseguire per tutta la vita. -

Rossini’ Conservatoire in Pesaro and DAMS (Disciplina Arte Musica e Spettacolo) University in Bologna. She graduated in Piano and Music History. Master degree at Scuola di Alto Perfezionamento pianistico di Imola. The winner of numerous piano competitions in Italy and abroad, she worked with the RAI Symphony Orchestra in Rome as a pianist and became involved in several RAI opera productions. Her career as pianist of singers like Mariella Devia or Sonia Ganassi or Juan Diego Florez has taken her for recitals to major venues such as La Scala in Milan, Santa Cecilia in Rome, Teatro Real in Madrid and the Japan Opera Foundation in Tokyo and others. Early on she took up a parallel career as director, debuting with Gardel’s IL PASSO DELL’ANIMA at Teatro Bellini in Catania and a successful production of LA SCALA DI SETA by Rossini in Teatro La Maestranza of Siviglia. Known both as inventive producer and as piano player, Rosetta Cucchi has established herself as one of the most innovative Italian opera directors of his generation. Reviewing her staging in 2004 of a unknown Opera by Walter Braunfels PRINZESSIN BRAMBILLA in Wexford Opera Festival Ireland, George Hall from Opera News has written “…The most successful of the three Wexford stagings this year was the work of Rosetta Cucchi, best known hitherto as a pianist and coach but beginning to make her way as a director. -
