Tidal Lagoon Bay: INFORMAL CONSULTATION

Dear Councillor,

We are putting forward a proposal for a tidal lagoon in and I am trying to contact you to discuss our project as well as gather your feedback on how it can be best utilised to benefit the which you represent. This is part of an informal consultation process which we are undertaking before we apply for planning permission.

The lagoon itself is a 10km loop of wall that is land attached and lies just south of the . Its main purpose will be to utilise the high tidal range that is so special in Swansea Bay to generate green electricity. There will be turbines at the far end of the wall and it is our intention to build a visitors centre so that anybody can come along to see the inner working of the lagoon and to learn about renewable energy.

We would like to use the wall itself for sporting activities such as running, cycling and triathlon but also to make the most of the inner expanse of water for sailing and swimming. We would really welcome an opportunity to meet with you to run through a presentation of our plans and to gather your feedback.

Please could you let me know when you might be available over the next few weeks and I will put a meeting in the diary. It would also be greatly appreciated if you could notify me of any residents groups in your ward which might be interest in finding out more about this project or a regular meeting which I could attend.

More details are available on our website, www.tidallagoonswanseabay.com, where you can also register for regular updates as the project progresses.

Best regards

Joanna Lane

Dear

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Public Affairs Coordinator for Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon. As with other members of the team, I’m looking forward to meeting in order to discuss and outline the significance of the energy project within the local area and as part of ’ future energy mix.

In December last year, we wrote to Members of Parliament outlining our proposal to develop a tidal energy lagoon in Swansea Bay. We now wish to inform you of three informal consultation events we are holding in April, providing the public with a first opportunity to comment on our proposal, plus options and issues arising.

The events will be advertised in local media and on our website www.tidallagoonswanseabay.com, where people can also sign up for our e-newsletter. The events are scheduled as follows:

th  Swansea Civic Centre Library, Thursday 11 April 2013, 10.00am-6.00pm

th th  Ostreme Centre, , Tuesday 16 April & Wednesday 17 April 2013, 12.00pm- 5.30pm

th  The Princess Royal Theatre, , Thursday 18 April 2013, 10.00am-6.00pm

We would be delighted if you can attend any of the events and would appreciate it if you could extend the invitation to groups or individuals in your constituency who might find this of interest.

Please note: consultation with the various regulators and statutory bodies is on-going. We are also meeting community groups in Swansea Bay and welcome invitations to speak at any suitable public events. Formal consultation is scheduled for June and July this year, prior to our submitting an application to the Planning Inspectorate in October. The Inspectorate’s examination process would then commence before Christmas, with a full public examination held in the first half of 2014. You and your constituents will therefore have more opportunities to comment on the project (which will be widely publicised in advance in line with statutory requirements), but we hope you will also take this first chance to meet the team, find out more, and share your views.

If I can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

Oriel Price

INFORMAL CONSULTATION

Dear

During the last eighteen months we have been presenting our plans to develop a tidal energy lagoon to individuals and groups in the Swansea Bay area.

We have recently presented our plans to the Local Planning Authority and we are also meeting as many of the Community Councils in the Swansea Bay area as possible. At this stage we would very much like to ensure that all Councillors have had the opportunity to hear about our proposals and are in a position to provide feedback and comments on our plans. We are proposing to hold the following “drop in afternoons” in Port Talbot and which will allow the opportunity, if you haven’t already done so, for you to meet members of the consultation team and find out more information on our proposals.

These events are scheduled as follows:

 The Grand Hotel, Station Road, PORT TALBOT SA13 1DE Monday 17th June 2.00pm - 4.00pm  The Castle Hotel, The Parade, NEATH, SA11 1RB Tuesday 18th June 2.00pm–4.00pm We would be delighted if you can attend any of the events and would be very happy for you to pass the invitation to groups or individuals in your ward who might find this of interest.
