5 LOVELAND • CO Everything You Love™

I am pleased to welcome you to one of the best communities in the world – Loveland, Colorado! We have Everything You Love to enjoy an exceptional vacation and our friendly, compassionate citizens will help you feel at home with whatever experience you are looking for. Loveland is an incredible place to visit. There are so many things to experience - everything from the arts, shopping, brewery tours, outdoor activities and much more. It is very easy to talk about the fabulous Rocky Mountains, fly fishing the Big Thompson River, boating and water skiing on the many lakes in and around the City, the beautiful park and trail system, and world class golfing at the Olde Course and Mariana Butte. It is easy to boast about our amenities, including one of the top event centers in the state of Colorado, the Budweiser Event Center, bringing national acts such as Cirque du Soleil and other top-tier entertainment. We invite you to explore one of the most unique collections of sculpture in the world at Benson Sculpture Garden and Chapungu Sculpture Park. But among the world-class amenities, entertainment, recreation, art, shopping and dining you will find here, what keeps Loveland so appealing are the people and the spirit of community that bridges it all together. 2013 brought tremendous successes, such as hosting a leg of the U.S. Pro Challenge, becoming the first city to incorporate a hydraulic hybrid bus into our fleet, and the addition of wonderful new restaurants and breweries. However, it also brought one of the biggest challenges of all – the record-breaking Big Thompson flood in September. Despite the challenges of 2013, we, much like our Colorado counterparts, are mountain strong. You won’t believe the progress we have made in getting things back on track. In November US 34 reopened allowing an access road to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch is on track to kick off its 2014 Dude Ranch season in June 2014. We have never been a stronger, more resilient community than we are today, and you will experience that throughout your stay. Loveland is the “Masterpiece” of Northern Colorado, possessing all the amenities of an urban population center, yet it still has its small town charm, friendliness and welcoming atmosphere. I am so glad you chose to spend your time with us and believe you will have a truly unforgettable experience. Enjoy your stay!

Loveland Recreation Tips Outdoor Recreation You are invited to enjoy many activities offered at an abundance of parks, lakes, rivers, sports parks, and hiking/biking trails. Bicycling, camping, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, swimming, and plant & wildlife viewing occupy the spring, summer and fall months, while sledding, ice skating and snowshoeing are winter favorites. Living/Playing Around Wildlife The key is to respect the wildness of wildlife. “Wildlife” is just that—wild. Most dangerous and potentially harmful encounters occur because people fail to leave animals alone. Wildlife should not be harassed, captured, domesticated or fed. Intentional or inadvertent feeding is the major cause of most wildlife problems. It is illegal to feed deer, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, pronghorn and elk in Colorado. Contact the local Colorado Parks & Wildlife office at 970-472-4300 for information regarding big game species like deer, elk, pronghorn, sheep, goats, bear, and moose. Altitude Adjustment Loveland is situated at 4,982 feet above sea level in a semi-arid climate. The sun is more intense, and you should always wear sunscreen of at least 15 SPF, sunglasses, and drink lots of water. There is less oxygen at higher altitudes, so give yourself time to adjust, plan a day of rest before strenuous exercise like downhill or cross-country skiing; pace yourself while hiking or biking. To decrease the risk of acute mountain sickness at altitudes above 7,400 feet, take it easy, eat high carbohydrate foods and limit salt and alcohol intake.

Art in Public Places: A community’s greatest gift is the evolving history of its people, their stories, their symbols, and their enduring traditions. This community’s history is cast in bronze, in brilliant pigments, in images on film, in subtle fibers. The people of Loveland have enthusiastically embraced the arts and skillfully woven them into their daily lives, truly making Loveland, A Work of Art. The City’s collection presently encompasses over 300 diverse works of art valued at approximately $7.6 million dollars. Private contributions by arts organizations, citizens and artists, have donated over 72% of the value of the collection, making the City of Loveland unique among other municipalities. Find the public works of art across Loveland by visiting www.CityofLoveland.org/ PublicArt.
