Prescott Colour Me Kubric.Pdf (52.89Kb)
Colour Me Kubrick Talent: John Malkovich, Richard E. Grant, Peter Bowles, Robert Powell, William Hootkins, Marisa Berenson, Ken Russell. Writer/director/editor: Brian Cook Classification: M (Mature) Duration: 86 minutes We rate it: Four and a half stars. Date of review: 8th June, 2006 For both film aficionados and the public at large, Stanley Kubrick has long been a figure of fascination. Interest in Kubrick as an artistic figure has continued in leaps and bounds since the great director’s untimely death in 1999. As the visionary creator of many of the twentieth century’s landmark films, works like 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Dr Strangelove, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut, Kubrick was a figure of intense acclaim and interest during his lifetime; a significant percentage of the world’s artistic community followed the filmmaker’s projects with obsessive interest. In his latter years, Kubrick’s refusal to travel outside England and his tendency toward reclusiveness increased his attraction for other parts of the popular press, as well as for gossip-mongers and mythographers. During the last decade of his life, however (and in large part because of the aura of mystery that had come to surround him) Kubrick attracted one of the most bizarre forms of attention possible: he was impersonated by a trickster, a con-man who passed himself off as the famous director in order to take advantage of the goodwill of individuals who were, it would seem, all too willing to believe they had encountered the great man in person. The impostor, an Englishman named Alan Conway, was a deeply flawed, almost tragic figure, who it seems suffered delusions of many kinds during his lifetime. -

Despite moving with the times, they are, however, no longer in the best position to sort out for themselves the many problems that confront them. Corruption, money laundering, match-fixing, misplaced government interven- tion, legal disputes of various sorts, and so on, can, indeed, only be dealt with effectively if authority is clearly defined and if the status and independence of football’s governing bodies is recognised by law and they are provided with the necessary means. The Independent European Sport Review initiated by the sports ministers of the EU’s five key member states in cooperation with UEFA and FIFA is an important step in this direction. Its concludes in favour of sport being accorded a special, independent status and supports the European sport model. -

JOHN BEASLEY GRAMMY-NOMINEE PIANIST / COMPOSER / ARRANGER ******************************************************************************************* “Beasley, the one-time keyboardist for Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis, reflects a variety of generational influences, incorporating the emphatic chordal clusters of Herbie Hancock, the rhythmic quirkiness of Monk and the lush intelligence of Art Tatum into a highly refined personal voice.” --Los Angeles Times ******************************************************************************************* BIOGRAPHY Grammy-nominated recording artist John Beasley’s music career spans three decades. With the popularity of reality singing TV shows, Beasley has taken the helm as Music Director for major studio shows. Highlights of Beasley’s multi-track career include: • Pianist/Keyboardist for Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Chaka Khan, Carly Simon, Christian McBride, Dianne Reeves, Kenny Garrett, Stanley Clarke, Lee Ritenour, even a stint with James Brown, Barbra Streisand,
