We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world. – Walt Disney These two quotes from Walt Disney perfectly embodied his creative spirit and his drive to always keep improving. Even today, you can see that philosophy at work in Disney parks around the world, as well as on the silver screen. When we started Celebrations oh-so many years ago, we went into it with the same mind set; to always look to the future, to never stand still, and to do everything we could to put our passion and love for Disney into everything we do. In the spirit of moving forward, we are proud to usher in a new era of Celebrations; an era where we will be sharing even more Disney magic with you, and one where we can bring that magic to you in new and innovative ways! “How?” you might say. Well, as you may have noticed, this issue of Celebrations is quite a bit larger than our previous issues. This is the “new” Celebrations…bigger, grander, and packed with even more Disney magic and imagination! Our new Collector’s Edition issues will be published four times a year, and each issue will celebrate the seasonal happenings of Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer! We’re kicking things off in grand style with this, our Fall issue, where we’ll explore the haunting mischief of Halloween (don’t worry, it’s not so scary!), the culinary delights of Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival, and the much-anticipated opening of Galaxy’s Edge. Of course, we’ll also continue to bring you other Disney features and beautiful pictorials on every aspect of Walt Disney World; including the attractions, resorts, secrets, special events, news, films, and history. But wait (as they say), there’s more! We’re also introducing our new monthly digital magazine, WDW Monthly, that will bring you even more magic more often! WDW Monthly will feature the latest news from the parks, fun-filled articles about your favorite characters, resorts, restaurants, and attractions…as well as up-to-date travel trips to help you plan that perfect vacation. And if you’re not heading to Disney soon? Celebrations and WDW Monthly will let you relive that Disney magic every single day of the year with 16 issues bursting at the seams with pixie dust and imagination. And we’re not done yet! We’re also introducing a whole new website, wdwcupcakes.com, where we’ll be celebrating the Sweeter Side of Disney! From cupcakes and Rice Krispie treats to caramel apples and delectable pastries, we’ll be sharing recipes, baking videos, pictorial cupcake tours of the parks and resorts, Walt Disney World “sweet spots” (starting with our favorite, the Confectionery), and much much more! It’s a truly exciting time at Walt Disney World right now, particularly with the opening of Galaxy’s Edge, the debut of Epcot Forever, the opening of new resorts…and a whole host of exciting movies coming to the big screen. And we could think of no better way to celebrate all of the magic that’s coming to Disney than by offering up even more magic for you, our readers! A whole new world awaits us, and we invite you to join us as we head into a great, big, beautiful tomorrow. And we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of part of our Celebrations family. Enjoy the magic! CONTRACT LAW: NEW MEDIA AND OLD LICENSES It was not so long ago that few people had heard of video cassette players for the home, let alone laser disc players.' With technology ex- panding so rapidly the courts have had to decide whether new forms of media, such as video cassettes and video discs, should be included under license agreements that were created before these media were developed. The court held in Platinum Record Co., Inc. v. Lucasfilm, Ltd.2 that where a license agreement can be fairly read to include exhibition by means of newly developed or unforeseen media, it is the burden of the licensor3 to negotiate exceptions to the rights granted to the licensee.4 The court also ruled that motion pictures are exhibited when shown to an audience on a movie or television screen and therefore, video cassettes and video discs are a means of exhibition rather than something unre- lated to exhibition.5 In January 1973, Lucasfilm, Ltd.

  • Joining the Evil Galactic Empire a Review of Star Wars: Tie Fighter by Brennan Movius STS 145
Joining the Evil Galactic Empire A Review of Star Wars: Tie Fighter By Brennan Movius STS 145 Publisher: LucasArts Project Leads and Design: Lawrence Holland and Edward Kilham Very Special Thanks: George Lucas “The Emperor welcomes you intohis Imperial Fleet.. ..” As soon as I read those first words in ‘Tie Fighter’s Starfghter Pilot Manual, I was hooked. Fresh off the experience of ‘X-Wing’ ’, I was ready for its sequel. And with ‘Tie Fighter’,LucasArts promised to delivera very different gaming experience. While previously my exploits in the Star Wars universe had been limited to the perspective of the benevolent Rebel Alliance, this time, I was joining the ranks of the Evil Galactic Empire. And I was very excited to finally be playing the role of a bad-guy. So much so, in fact, that not ten seconds into the opening crawl I had already embraced the Empire’s ‘proactive’ stance on Galactic defense. And while it’s important to realize that there are two sides to every conflict (the Empire can’tbe all bad, can it?), somehow I sensed that my concerns we no longer with the unalienable rights of the galactic inhabitants. My allegiance was to law and order now and the Rebels,I was told, were tryingto undermine it. So let’s crush that traitorous Rebel scum! Serve the Emperor! Building on a Giant When LucasArts went about creating ‘Tie Fighter’ (the definitive, single-player, space- combat simulator) they had the enormous success of ‘X-Wing’ to build on. Indeed, ‘X- Wing’ combined many features that have now become standardon like-genre games, like pre-renderedcut-scenes, multiple crafts and weapons, 3D shadedgraphics, mission objectives, and in-game training.

Perceptions of Religion from Star Wars and Star Trek Abstract Hollywood films and eligionr have an ongoing rocky relationship, especially in the realm of science fiction. A brief comparison study of the two giants of mainstream sci-fi, Star Wars and Star Trek reveals the differing attitudes toward religion expressed in the genre. Star Trek presents an evolving perspective, from critical secular humanism to begrudging personalized faith, while Star Wars presents an ambiguous mythological foundation for mystical experience that is in more ways universal. This article is available in Journal of Religion & Film: https://digitalcommons.unomaha.edu/jrf/vol7/iss2/3 Schultes: Any Gods Out There? Science Fiction has come of age in the 21st century. From its humble beginnings, "Sci- Fi" has been used to express the desires and dreams of those generations who looked up at the stars and imagined life on other planets and space travel, those who actually saw the beginning of the space age, and those who still dare to imagine a universe with wonders beyond what we have today.

The information was compiled by Cindy O’Connell using documents supplied by Carmon Adams. Other sources of information were the websites: www.ancestry.com , www.familysearch.org and www.legacy.com . No family history has ever been published without mistakes. I am sorry if mistakes were made in your family. Only by sending me the changes, corrections, and additions can I pass the information on to others. Finally, to those who contributed to this book, a special thank-you. In typing the genealogies of the descendants of William S. Burch who married Nancy Jane Harper, I used an outline form, giving an individual number to each person, indenting for each younger generation and double spacing between generations.
