Overview

The comprehensive IBM SurePOS ACE for (OS) point-of- sale (POS) application is designed to help supermarket, hypermarket, chain drug retailers, and general merchandise retailers optimize customer service and improve reliability at the POS. This powerful object-oriented POS application combines checkout support, electronic marketing, data maintenance, account management, and other accounting processes in a versatile package. SurePOS ACE software handles multiple tenders and offers many features designed to help customers stay current with technology and streamline store processes.

ACE software is enabled to support IBM Store Integrator (SI), including the Graphical User Interface (GUI), and IBM Data Integration Facility (DIF) software, which helps real-time sales data analysis.

ACE V7 delivers support for GS1 DataBar Coupons based upon the "GS1 North American Coupon Application Guideline Using GS1 DataBar Reduced Space Symbology (RSS) Expanded Symbols" published in September 2007, and the GS1

IBM Canada Ltd. Software Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 1 A09-0645 DataBar POS Implementation Guide for Coupons. Industry-wide transition from UPC5 encoded coupons to GS1 DataBar encoded coupons is planned for completion in January 2010.

Beginning in 2010, GS1 DataBar bar codes may be used for encoding items for trade as well as for manufacturer and store coupons. Prior releases of IBM SurePOS ACE have provided support for scanning GS1 DataBar (formerly Reduced Space Symbology) encoded items, and the delivery of the GS1 DataBar Coupon support positions retailers for these industry changing initiatives.

More information on GS1's new coupon standard and its implementation may be found at

Description

IBM SurePOS ACE V7 includes all the functions previously announced as well as the following new functions:

• GS1 DataBar Coupon support for January 2010 sunrise The IBM SurePOS ACE Application implements full support for the GS1 DataBar Coupon ("North American Coupon Application Guideline Using GS1 DataBar (RSS) Expanded Symbols," dated September 2007). The implementation provides support for each of the data fields within the GS1 DataBar Coupon fields, enabling features such as:

– Complex validation for offers – New methods of providing discounts – Coupon start and expiration date support – The ability to limit coupons to a specific retailer – The ability to disable multiplication for in-store manufacturer coupons – Manufacturer and store coupon support – More information about the new coupon standard and its implementation may be found at http://www.gs1.org • Increased number of supported tax plans The number of supported tax plans has been doubled from four to eight, thereby providing the retailer with the ability to sell a wider range of products within the store in areas with varied tax requirements. This addition allows retailers to tax at unique tax rates and it also prevents the need for combining tax plans. • Food stamp taxability enhancement Many states require sales tax to be forgiven on the portion of a transaction paid for with the United States Food and Nutrition Service Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, previously referred to as the Food Stamp Program).

IBM Canada Ltd. Software Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2 A09-0645 For example, in some states the tax on all SNAP-eligible purchases maybe forgiven, regardless of the SNAP tender amount.

If a customer purchases items that are taxable and not SNAP eligible, the tax may not be forgiven for those particular items in the transaction.

This change enables retailers to select whether the SNAP tender amount or all SNAP-eligible purchase amounts are nontaxable when SNAP tendering. • Tax Exempt Enhancements Retailers can select to calculate and log the tax exempt identification collected while processing a tax exemption. The identification entered may be numeric or alphanumeric. This information is stored in the transaction log to enable tracking and auditing by the retailer. Additional details about the tax exemption are also logged with the exemption data, including the amount of sales for which tax was exempted in total and by tax plan.

This function allows retailers to track the tax exempt ID, the amount of sales exempted from tax for each tax plan, the amount of sales exempted from tax for all tax plans, and the amount of tax exempted for each tax plan. The tax exempt details can be accumulated at the store level. • Increased expansion of tender varieties for flexibility in grouping and reporting tenders Tender varieties have been increased from six to nine, enabling a total of 72 supported tenders. This change has been made to minimize the impact to the supporting database files, while providing the retailer with more tender definitions and greater flexibility for grouping and reporting tenders. • Expanded operator performance department groups Operator performance statistics are tracked by operator within the operator performance file. The number of subtotal groups has been expanded from 20 to 40, which enables retailers to review data from more major departments within the store. This data is frequently used as an identification of cashier related shrink and improves the retailer's ability to perform detection. • Operator authorization model selection Operators are usually created from operator models contained within the system. This enhancement allows the user to select the model number from a list which also contains the description of the model, improving both usability and accuracy. • Comparison price support The comparison price support has been enhanced to support more complex pricing, including split package and base plus one pricing with deal quantities. This change enables more detailed information to be communicated on the customer's receipt on their savings. • Increase in the number of points that can be redeemed on a coupon Attracting loyal customers is a key part of every retailer's business. One of the methods used to attract and retain loyal customers is through the use of loyalty cards and continuity programs. This enhancement allows for increased limits on the number of points redeemed for primary and secondary points totals, allowing the retailer more flexibility when designing and implementing their programs. • Customer birth date receipt masking In order to improve customer privacy, when a customer's birth date is entered to meet a restricted sale requirement, this feature allows the retailer to be able to mask the date of birth (DOB) information on the customer's sales receipt. • Serviceability and performance enhancements – Load terminal options by terminal number or range This change provides support staff with the capability to specify a single terminal, a set of terminals, or a range of terminals when reloading terminal options. This allows the support staff to remotely update and reload options

IBM Canada Ltd. Software Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 3 A09-0645 for a subset of terminals in the store. This function is useful when changes are required for only a portion of the terminals in a store, such as pharmacy or customer service lanes. – Electronic journal performance improvements This feature improves the performance of the Electronic Journal by adding a disk caching algorithm to reduce disk I/O during Electronic Journal updates. • Printing enhancements – Native mode support for the 4610-2CR/2NR printer Native mode support for IBM Retail Store Solutions' newest two station thermal printer models (4610-2CR and 4610-2NR) has been added, providing support for up to 80 lines-per-second printing. – Print bar code on receipt This function provides the retailer with the capability to print promotional bar code information in the loyalty section of the customer receipt. Support has been added to allow definition and printing of bar codes within the loyalty messages printed on customer receipts when using a 4610 printer. Bar code types UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN, EAN-8, ITF, and Code 128(c) may all be printed. – Printing performance enhancements Version 7 of IBM SurePOS ACE has been enhanced to further optimize printing to maximize the throughput capabilities of supported printer models.

ACE EPS V7 includes all the functions previously announced and the following new functions:

• Signature limit by amount (EPS) Retailers may now improve Electronic Payment tendering time by only requiring a paper or electronic signature from customers when an EPS tender exceeds a retailer set limit in options. The amount is selectable by tender, allowing the retailer to set different limits based upon their card processing agreements. • VeriFone pinpad support for MX830, MX850, MX860 payment terminals IBM SurePOS ACE V7 now supports the MX830, MX850, and MX860 payment terminals from VeriFone. In addition to the basic features of these pinpads, support has been added for contactless payments, multiple encryption keys for added security, and Smart Card WIC EBT. • Add gift card to choices when printing a reconciliation report A new gift card tender option has been added to the search criteria for the EPS reconciliation report, allowing retailers to separate these tenders from credit card tenders in the reconciliation report.
