Description

IBM 4690 Operating System V5.2 adds the following enhancements:

• Support for new models of the SurePOS 700 family Along with Version 5 Release 2 of 4690 OS, we are announcing the support of the next generation of Retail Store Solutions POS system units, the 4800-7x3, 4800-Sx3, and 4800-C43. This new generation of POS hardware has significant serviceability enhancements.

• Ability to remotely set terminal CMOS settings This function will provide retailers with capability to remotely set terminal CMOS options. It is specifically for Models 72X, 74X, 78X, S2X, S4X, and S8X.

• Support for larger exception logs This function will increase the size of the exception log to four times the current size.

• Reporting of 4610 electromagnetic noise 4610 printers may provide an indication that there was excessive electromagnetic noise on a particular magnetic ink character reader (MICR) read command. With Version 5.2, this information is made available to the application.

• Easier Master/File Server Activation/Deactivation This function provides APIs to allow user applications to delete entries from the exception logs, as well as APIs to activate or deactivate the master or file server controllers.

• Scanning of 2D bar code (PDF 417) Applications are now able to scan a 2D bar code with Version 5.2.

• Provide wildcard support for CD and DVD file access This allows the use of wildcard support when accessing a CD and DVD on 4690 OS.

• Support for Russian and Ukrainian code pages This enhancement expands support for the Russian code page to the POS terminals, and supports Ukrainian at the store controller and POS terminal.

Additional usability enhancements to IBM 4690 Operating System V5.2 include:

• Confirm Control, Alt, Delete This is an optional selection that, when enabled, would require the user to confirm that the controller should IPL.

• Improve performance of file directory access Increase the directory/FAT (File Access Table) cache to improve performance for file directory entry access, as well as FAT entry accesses.

• Log an event when clearing of exception log This function adds the logging of a message when an exception log is successfully cleared and when an unsuccessful attempt is made to modify all exception log entries.

• Add terminal keyboard type to terminal application status This function adds an additional byte to the end of the terminal application status control block to contain an identifier for the specific type of keyboard which is attached to the terminal.

IBM United States Announcement 207-265 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2 • Add a common Generic Terminal Configuration (GTC) look and feel for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) configuration This item converts the DHCP configuration GUI to conform to the look and feel of all the other GUI, creating a more uniform presentation to the user.

• Web browser is provided by the ICE Browser product, which is PRPQ P85687 (5799-RWQ). • ICEsoft PDF Viewer is available to view PDF files. This product is PRPQ P85739 (5799-RZT). • The 4690 Remote Access provides the capability to do Remote Console for both controller character screens and graphical screens, file transfers, and a remote command processor. This product is PRPQ P85728 (5799-RYG).

All three of these PRPQs must be ordered separately from the OS. Defect support and upgrade charges for the browser, the PDF Viewer and 4690 Remote Access are included with the 4690 OS Software Maintenance PIDs 5639-BB3, 5639-BB5, 5639-GG2, 5639-GG3, and 5639-GG4.

Compatibility: IBM 4690 Operating System V5.2 is upwardly compatible with IBM 4690 Operating System V4 and supports all currently available applications including:

• IBM 4680 Chain Drug Sales Application (5669-212) • IBM 4680-4690 General Sales Application (5696-546) • IBM 4680-4690 Supermarket Application (5696-536) • IBM SUREPOS Application Client/Server Environment for 4690 OS (5724-N60) • IBM SUREPOS ACE Electronic Payment Support for 4690 OS (5724-N61) • SI GUI (5724-I03)
