The aircraft had crashed on 28th. The EAiiF first began work ¥/ith the CSIEO on rain-making in the mid,’forties and, in 1952, a detachment of the Eilill''s Aircraft Research and Development Unit at Laverton w&s formed to provide the CSIRO v/ith two DAKOTAS and twenty-four personnel. It is likely that the two aircraft are A65-60 and A65-93 (see page 1.87).

On 21,7,61, DuUGLAS C-54F 44-9115A of the USAF was noted at Sydney Airport, The aircraft had previously visited Alice Springs and Canberra.

At an International Trade Fair which was due to open in Sydney^ on 1st, iugust, the Soviet Union exhibited MIKHAIL MIL Mi-4P CCCP_lG229 (c/n possib- ly 10108), The helicopter has a fairly luxurious 11 seat cabin and an extensive ly fitted cocipit for two. On End, June, 1961, it was announced that the Air Officer CoiTanander in Chief, Bomber Command, RAF, Air Marshal Sir Kenneth Cross, \Tould leave the in a VICTOR on 10th, June and would visit EAAP' and other military establishments in Malaya' and Australia from 19th» June to 3rd, July, A second VICTOR would accompany the AuC's aircraft and a supporting party of ground per sonnel would travel in a D.H, COMET of RAF Transport Command,:

After flying from the United Kingdom in company, the two VICTORS left Butterworth, Malaya, for Dsiwin on 18th, June but several eagles struck VICTOR XH590 on take-off and, although no damage was evident, both aircraft returned to the RAAp- Statical, As the AOC was operating to a tight schedule, he and his crew left for Parwiii ,on 19th» June in VICTOR XIi592 with the D»H* COMET C,2 XK698 in company while the suspect VICTOR was inspected and subjected to undercarriage re traction tests. After arrival at Darririn, Sir Kenneth flew to Sydney in the COMET^ and, on 20th, June, the VICTOR XII592, commanded by Wing Cmidr# A, Ringer, made a record flight of three hours from Darwin to EAAI' gtation, Richmond, MSW, On the morning of 21st. The aircraft arrived overhead at EAAF Station, Richmond, at 4,39 pm EST on 21st, June, giving an elapsed time of 20 hours 3 minutes 17 seconds for the 11500 mile flight-.and an average speed of 575 mph« Highest ground speed was 700 mph east of Alice Spring";S» The crew of the VULCAI ims Sqdn. Ldr, M, Beavis (captain). Fit. Lieuts. D. Bromley, R. Taylor and G. Jukes, F/O, J. Knight, and Chief Technician W, Alpine,

On 22nde June, the aircraft were on display at Richmond,- V The VULCAI was bleached white overall with pale blue serial mmber. The VICIUR, of 15 Sqdn a. was also white overall but the serial number was black. The CuIi.LT had a royal blue flash down the fuselage with the name "Pegasus" just aft of the cockpit, On 23rd.. the COMET took the AOC to Melbourne and the other aircraft flew to Edinburgh, South

Australia, On 27th • 9 a VICTOR and the VULCAI flew over Hobart, Launceston and Mel- bourne while the other VICTOR flew over countly towns, On 30th the four aircraft flew to Pearce, lest Australia, with individual runs over Perth as they arrived and were on display at Pearce on 2nd, July vjhere the large crowd caused a traffic jam.
