I do not think there can be any doubt that Mr. McKinlay has now very clearly put on record three important facts: 1. The scope of Audit Scotland’s work on Actual Reality and Castle Toward was limited to the sales of Castle Toward and Ardentinny; and it was only the results of that work which were given in the annual audit report to elected members and to the Controller of Audit. 2. You have known about this limitation all along because the scope of Audit Scotland’s work was agreed in an exchange of letters between you and Fiona Mitchell-Knight in February this year. 3. Audit Scotland accordingly did not carry out any detailed audit work on the allegations that we have made about the closure of Castle Toward in 2009 and they are “therefore not in a position to comment on the substance or otherwise of them”. My purpose in writing to you now is to ask you to account for the claims made in the name of the Council, that Audit Scotland have supported, confirmed, or validated Council officers’ position that our allegations about the events of 2009 have no substance.

    INVERARAY JAIL - PRISONER RECORDS http://www.inverarayjail.co.uk/ USE THE EDIT / FIND ON TOOLBAR TO SEARCH NAMES and ENTRIES BY TOWN and VILLAGE By tradition and history 'the county town Argyll, Inveraray's courthouse and prisons, designed by James Gillespie Graham in 1813, after original plans by Robert Reid in 1807, opened in 1820 - Whilst Reid's original plans hadd included a courthouse and three prisons - one for males, one for females and one for debtors - The Prison Commissioners, lacking finances, had to be content with building only the courthouse and but one prison, eight cellss contained in its two floors - Following the 1839 Prisons (Scotland) Act, a second prison, separating men and women and designed by Thomas Brown of Edinburgh, was opened at the end of 1848, the new three-storied prison having twelve cells, an exercise gallery and a pair of outdoor exercise yards, the idea of separating male and female prisoners stemming from the somewhat misguided persuasion that such a system gave prisoners time to reflect upon their sins ! After the passing of the 1877 Prisons (Scotland) Act, the responsibility for the running and financing prisons taken away from local authorities, small local prisons were successively closed in favour of large prisons, such as Glasgow's 1882-built Barlinnie Prison and though Inveraray's jail, the last of the small prisons, was closed on August 31, 1889, courts continued to sit in Inveraray's courthouse until around 1954.4. After an extensive programme of restoration was undertaken by The Scottish Office in the 1980's, the building then lying empty for some years, Inveraray Jail was opened to the public as a 'visitor attraction' in May 1989 and the records of more than 4,000 of its Victorian prisoners put online for the interest of family history researchers.

The application is for the development of an underground gold mine with process plant/accommodation building and tailings stacks, a settlement pond, flow gauging point in the River Cononish, a site drainage system to include piped flows from ‘tailings stacks’ to settlement pond and settlement pond to the River Cononish as well as a recirculation pipe returning water from the pond to the processing plant, a new bridge over the Crom Allt at the Dalrigh ford, construction of a small car parking area adjacent to the existing public car park at Dalrigh and related track accesses. The application is for a further revision of the currently permitted operation – ref 2011/0166/MIN, and as subsequently superseded by 2014/0285/DET and 2014/0317/DET.
