Richard Lander Notice Board School Uniform – We Have a Message Far More Seriously If It Is Smart and Distinctive Uniform Given from Home and School RICHARD LANDER SCHOOL WEEKLY BULLETIN 22nd November 2012 Message from the Headteacher Dear Parents, As we come toward the end of the term, please can I draw your attention to school’s Cathedral Carol Service on Monday 3rd December from 7:30—9:00 pm as well as our Informal Carol Service, held in the school’s Dining Hall on Monday 17th December from 7:00—9:00 pm. Important Dates for your Diary Ours is the only school in the county which has an annual carol service in the SATURDAY 1ST DECEMBER Cathedral and we are very grateful for this privilege. It is a wonderful venue and Ten Tors Day Walk when it is filled with the combined voices of students and parents and wider MONDAY 3RD DECEMBER families, it is an occasion of real awe and wonder. THURSDAY 6TH DECEMBER Year 10/11 Hockey Tournament My thanks to parents for your support regarding your children’s attendance. Over FRIDAY 7TH DECEMBER the term so far, attendance stands at over 95%, which is a terrific INSET—No Students in School achievement. For many students, their attendance remains at Y9/10/11 Clothes Show Trip 100%. Congratulations to these students and many thanks again to parents for THURSDAY 13TH DECEMBER your support. Year 10 Maths Trip to Truro College Parents whose children are still not wearing the school zip-up or fleece will by now FRIDAY 14TH DECEMBER have received letters to this effect. In 2017/18 the amount schools receive each year has doubled. Key Indicators - The Department for Education vision is that all pupils leaving primary school are physically literate and have the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport. There are 5 key indicators that schools should expect to see improvement across: the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity - the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school the profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils increased participation in competitive sport Funding - Individual schools will receive circa £16000-18000 per annum (depending on the number of pupils) which they can use to support these outcomes through various options including; staff CPD, employing specialists to work alongside teachers, cluster work with other schools and partnerships, transport, equipment, hall and pool hire etc.

  • Richard Lander School Bulletin
RICHARD LANDER SCHOOL BULLETIN 12th October 2018 Message from the Headteacher Dear Parents The first half term has been characterised by lots of success on the sporting front. Perhaps the finest moment this term has been the crowning of our Greenpower team as international Greenpower champions for the second year. This is the result of a years’ worth of racing, involving over 600 cars nationally and internationally. Local and regional heats determined the starting line-up of the finals and we were delighted to be starting the final races in pole position, with our car performing most consistently over the season. After two races in quite trying conditions, our team emerged victorious and we held on to the title which we won last year. Well done to all students who took part and to the staff who have given up so much time to support this: Mr Lloyd-King (lead member of staff), Mr Merrick and Ms Whitfield. A couple of further points: We have had a few inclement days recently and are aware that some students do not wear a waterproof jacket to school. Some students wear a regular hoodie over their school uniform, but this is not sufficient if it is raining. Please can parents ensure their children always come to school wearing a waterproof jacket Some parents have enquired recently as to what homework their children are being issued. Can I refer parents to my bulletin message at the start of term, which can be found on the school website. Parents can access all homework for their children on the Show My Homework website.

  • Truro School Public Benefit and Charitable Activity Report 2015-16
TRURO SCHOOL PUBLIC BENEFIT AND CHARITABLE ACTIVITY REPORT 2015-16 Objective 5 of Truro School’s Strategic Plan is: “To be celebrated as a socially and environmentally responsible member of the Cornish community.” This report outlines the range of activities undertaken by the school and its staff to support the local and wider community. Financial Support to families of Pupils at Truro School Truro School is committed to keeping its doors open to as many students as possible from the local community who will benefit from a Truro School education, regardless of the financial means of their parents. Scholarships (academic, sport, music, art, fencing, drama and chorister) are merit based but are small in value, usually 10%. However, bursaries are available which may provide financial support up to a maximum of 100%, dependent on the outcome of means-testing. Special emergency discretionary bursaries can also be awarded, usually for a limited time, when unforeseen financial difficulties arise for those parents whose children are currently in the School. These special bursaries are generally awarded for a key period of education such as completion of GCSEs or A Levels. When available, places are found in the boarding accommodation to overcome a domestic or family crisis. Funding for these bursaries comes from Truro School, the Truro School Foundation, Methodist Independent Schools Trust and some external Educational and Charitable Trusts. Benefits to Local Community The pupils' Community Service Scheme involves Truro School pupils helping with the elderly, young children at nurseries and in charity shops. The School Chaplain leads services throughout the county (including the Royal Cornwall Hospital) as a Minister of the Methodist Church and other staff are lay preachers in the community.
