Marsha P. Johnson

Marsha P. Johnson ( b.1945-1992) was a rights and trans activist who participated in the of 1969 in , NYC. The were a turning point in the Gay Rights movement and the government changed laws to protect civil rights because of people like Marsha P Johnson who spoke up and advocated. Gay is now celebrated in City and all over the world on the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots on June 29th.

Harvey Milk (b.1930-1978) was born in and became one of the first openly gay officials to be elected to publice office. He was elected to Board of Supervisors in 1977 in CA. He fought tirelessly for civil rights for all people. He died tragically in 1978 when he was shot by an angry former government worker. The was established in his honor in New York City.

James Baldwin (b.1924-1987) was an writer, , playwright and civil rights activist who lived in . He is famous for his books about , gay rights and improving people’s lives through civil . He is one of the most important and honored Black writers in American history. Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda was born in New York City (b. 1937). She is an activist, former fashion model, and actress. Fonda has pushed for an end to wars. She did not want the Iraq War or to take place. Fonda works hard to make sure women are safe. She thinks people should look after the world, and be able to breathe clean air and drink clean water.

John Lewis (b. 1940-2020) was a civil rights leader and politician. He was a leader of a group of college students who wanted Black people to have equal rights. Lewis wanted Black people to be able to vote, sit where they want on buses, and to be able to choose the schools they want. He got people together to take part in marches for what they believe in. Lewis was a friend and co-worker of Martin Luther King Jr. Tarana Burke

Tarana Burke (b. 1973) is an activist who was born in in New York City. Tarana started the Me Too Movement. She has worked to keep women safe from people who may hurt them. She has worked to make sure people have enough money to live happy lives. She has also fought for racial justice.
