Jump-Start TM MUSIC CAMPS These afternoon camps (1pm – 3pm) will give you a head start to learn the instrument of your choice so you'll have the basics to be ahead of the game when school starts in the Fall! Bringing your own instrument to camp is recommended. Cornerstone has a limited rental instruments available for a nominal rental fee.
BRASS & WOODWINDS Grades 3-8 Aug. 7-11 Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, or Saxophone STRINGS Grades 2-7 Aug. 7-11 Violin, Viola, Cello, or Bass GUITAR/UKELELE Grades 3-8 Aug. 13-17 PIANO/KEYBOARD Grades K-2 Session I: July 24-July 28 Session II: July 31- Aug. 4 This camp is designed for younger beginners. A first look at the world famous HARMONY ROAD PIANO COURSE for students and parents. Campers have fun learning piano skills including ear training, note reading, and beginning repertoire. MUSIC EXPLORERS' CAMP Grades K-5 Newer to music? Join us for an engaging exploration of the world of melody, rhythm, and harmony! Close-up musical demonstrations are paired with fun stories about each instrument's history, musical crafts, and activities designed to build basic musicianship skills. Each student will also have the opportunity to “test drive” each instrument hands on! As available, guest presenters will be featured to further enrich the camp experience.
MUSIC FUN-DAMENTALS June 23 – June 30 Session 1 1:00pm - 3:00pm A shorter 2 hour music adventure exploring the wonders and mysteries of music-making including singing, playing instruments, rhythms, note reading and writing, musical crafts and a fun array of music games. INSTRUMENTS OF THE ORCHESTRA July 24 - July 28 Session 2 8:30am - 12:30pm Not sure which instrument you might be most interested in playing? Come join us as we journey through the different instrument families—brass, woodwinds, strings, keyboards, percussion, and voice! Get hands-on experience so you can make a wise choice while you learn about them all.
LATIN MUSIC WEEK July 31 - Aug. 4 Session 3 8:30am - 12:30pm Join us in exploring the variety of musical traditions and instruments from Mexico, Central and South America—a week of fun rhythms, grooves, and maybe a bit of dancing! PERFORMING ENSEMBLES Grades K through 12 BROADWAY MUSICAL CAMP TWO WEEKS July 10 - July 21 8:30am – 12:30pm Singing and choreography take center stage as everyone rehearses and performs a Broadway Musical. CHORUS CAMP TWO WEEKS July 10 - July 21 1:00pm – 3:00pm Our chorus will be performing music from film scores while learn- Ing vocal techniques, music reading, and stage deportment as well. . FLUTE and RECORDER CAMP Grades 2 -12 June 26-30 8:30am - 12:30pm Fluting is fun when you play together with others. Get new tips on how to make a clearer tone and learn new techniques of fingering while enjoying playing a variety of repertoire. ORCHESTRA CAMP Grades 3-12 2 WEEKS - June 12-23 8:30am - 12:30pm Join fellow Westside Youth Orchestra members in exploring classic and popular orchestra repertoire while building ensemble sensitivity and musicality. PIANO/KEYBOARD ORCHESTRA Grades 1-9 Aug. 13-17 1:00pm – 3:00pm Why should the strings and winds get all the fun of playing in ensembles? Pianists and keyboardists join together to experience the joys of orchestral sounds, playing multi-part ensemble transcriptions of classic and new pieces from a variety of genres. Public performance at the end of the week. ROCK BAND CAMP Grades 3-7 (June 12-16) June 12 - 16 Open to all instrumentalists and singers with at least one year playing their chosen instrument. CREATING YOUR OWN MUSIC MUSIC WRITING CAMP Grades 4-6 & Grades 7-12 June 19-23 1:00pm – 3:00pm Learn about all the “ingredients” that go into making a great piece of music—melody, harmony, counterpoint, rhythms, and more as we create brand-new music!
FILM SCORING CAMP Grades 7-12 June 26-30 8:30am – 12:30pm A look at the techniques of creating emotionally engaging, effective music for films, videos, and games, from writing effective melodies, chord progressions, and rhythms, to basic orchestration, to timing considerations between the music and what's on screen, to production of your score in a DAW (digital audio wor kstation program). Students must bring their own laptop or ipad.
VOICE AND SONGWRITING WORKSHOP Grades 3-8 & 9-12 Aug. 13 -17 8:30am – 12:30pm Creative musicians will write, collaborate, arrange, and perform their own songs, while being coached on vocal production, audition techniques, and stage presence.
