Proving a tail can fail, we were asked to bowl. We picked up a few early wickets thanks to Suave Norman 2/31 and Billy Sier 1/34, before a partnership started to develop. Gerbs toiled, and B.O. 'Stinky' Oliver came on from the other end and started to shut them down with some tight bowling. Greg 'Monkey Dick' Butterworth released the gloves to Henners Tyler, and held up the other end. The change of gloveman proved valuable as Butters 3/42 picked up a few, and Stinky 2/26 combined with Henners to stump their top scorer. With a small total on the cards some late agricultural hitting by the resident Sri Lankan saw the worm turn and blow out to 153 off the allotment, still, below par. So with batting being our strong suit we took to the crease in chase, knowing full well their asaid mentioned Sri Lankan bowled pretty slippery, and their other opener had taken a fair few wickets thus far. 1 down in the first over, 2 down in the second over, 3 for 6, 4/14 and things aren't looking so rosy. Jordy 'Red' Samad settled the ship a bit with a 20 run partnership before departing after doing the hard work, 5/34 and a lot of work to do. Daz 'Banger' Butterworth joined his brother and settled things down a little more with a 37 run partnership and at 6/71 we were nearly half way on the scoreboard but more than half back in the shed. Stinky came to the crease and a wicket loss just wasn't an option. Thankfully the openers were seen off and momentum started to swing in our favour, 6/80, 6/90, 6/100 and all of a sudden their heads were dropping and we were getting on top. They bought back the Sri Lankan opener back into the attack to no avail as both bats were 'in' by now and the scoreboard read 7/137, 16 to get in 6 overs when Butters got out for 69. B.O. continued the job finishing with 35 red. Great job. Too close for comfort this week, but that puts T.U. in the relegation gun, not us! A loss would have seen us go 2nd bottom. 2 big games to come, same pressure applies. C'mon!!!! Match Reports- B Grade Round 10 v Old Paradians/St Francis Banyule 5/128 def Old Paradians/St Francis 127 M Itilia 49 M Ashbury 4/17 J Smith 31no S Taylor 2/16 S Clapton 2/27 There was no match report from the twos this week but the 2nds Juggernaut keeps on rolling. After losing the toss, we bowled well sharing the wickets around with the Pres coming on late and pickup up 4/17 off 6 overs! A solid batting display was topped off by some great knocks by Brown and Smithy! Match Reports- C Grade Round 8 v Heidelberg at Chelsworth Park Banyule 164 def by Heidelberg 176 M Harte 39 J Jones 3/26 B Russell 37 M Harte 2/28 J Fraser 29 The Third X1 lined up against traditional rival Heidelberg at Chelsworth Park N/W for the first game back after Christmas. It turned out to be a hard fought affair with runs being at a premium, despite the fast outfield and the small size of the oval. After winning the toss Banyule elected to bat, with the hope of a solid total for the opposition to chase. Brad Russell batted sensibly and stayed at the crease for a long period of time in compiling his 37 runs. David Veal contributed 19 and James Fraser 29 “well struck” runs while Michael Harte was top scorer with a hard-hitting 39 runs. Despite having a spread of scorers, Banyule was still only able to amass 164 cc. This didn‟t seem a big enough total on the small ground combined with the fact that we had to send down 5 overs to Heidelberg before stumps. Although Banyule did not capture a wicket before stumps on the first day, when Jeremy Jones [3/26] was brought into the attack, things started to happen! Jeremy captured two wickets in his first over and another in his second, in a spirited display of fast bowling. With good support from Paul Davis and Michael Harte [2/28], Jeremy created havoc with the Heidelberg higher order. Suddenly they were reeling with four wickets down and not many more added to their overnight total. The sticking point came when Heidelberg was 6 wickets down – they were able to bat themselves out of trouble, with the last pair adding 60 runs and securing the game for their team [6/176 runs]. Overall the Banyule team members felt a sense of pride in the fighting performance to protect a small score against the top team. Rhys Brady was to be complimented on his inspiring efforts in the field throughout the afternoon. Match Reports- D Grade Round 7 v North Eltham at Kangaroo Ground Community Oval Banyule 174 def by North Eltham B Bowler 47 G Clapton 5/38 S Butler 27 F Neilson 2/55 B Neilson 29 A Samad 22 No match report from the 4s this week and we went down to a team packed with ones players. Chasing 262 was always going to be a tough ask, but it was good to see the next generation of bears show some form with the bat in Adam „little red‟ Samad making 22 and Bailey Neilson getting 29. The older blokes weren‟t too shabby themselves though with Plugger making 44 and Clappo snaring another bag with 5/38. Match Reports- Vets Round 8 v Heidelberg at Chelsworth Park Banyule 3/181 def Lower Plenty 6/179 A Brown 40 ret D Mills 2/22 B Dillon 41 ret G Barnes 2/26 G Miles 35 no B Oliver 35 We lost the toss again!!!. Lower Plenty batted first and got off to a flyer. At one stage we were looking at chasing 200 runs. The only option was to keep rotating our bowlers so the batsmen couldn't get used to them. We ended up bowling 11 different bowlers. Greg Barnes was the pick of the bowlers with his 2 wickets. he also took a great one handed left hand catch off Dave Veal which was flying to backward point. Adrian Brown and Skull opened the batting. Skull fell to a ripper of an inswinging yorker for 10. Browny chanced his arm and smashed an unbeaten 40 to get our innings off to a great start after 9 overs. Brett Oliver then kept the momentum rolling and was joined by Brendan Dillon who smacked up an unbeaten 41 runs. Brett was eventually caught for a valuable 35. Ever reliable, Gary Miles was joined by Barnesy who was caught in the deep for 7. Gary faced the last over and we needed 4 runs for a tie and 5 for a win. Gary hit the second ball to the fence, and the bowler bowled the next ball off the deck, so we won with a no-ball!!!. Gary was not out 35 at the end of the game. It was a fantastic run chase. We blooded 2 more debutants in Peter Arandt and Craig Rees, and 11 of our 13 players bowled.

Aim o Maximum Involvement, Accelerated Skill Development, Fast Paced & Action Packed. o Positive Attitudes and Behaviours on and off the pitch. o “NOTHING CAN JUSTIFY A WIN-AT-ALL COSTS APPROACH” Grade Objective This grade is for the most talented Year 7 & 8 players looking to continue at a serious level of cricket into high school. Developing the players in the team is still more important than the result even though some degree of specialization is expected. Coaches are to ensure that by the end of each half season, players have had an equal opportunity to display the skills that warranted their selection into the team. Rotation of the batting order is required, as stipulated in the batting section, and key bowlers should share the opening overs. We do not want players just being given the chance to display one skill throughout the season, all should bat in the top 5 more than once and all should bowl a reasonable number of overs throughout each half season.

As with other areas of sport, Monash has encouraged elite cricketers as well as those wishing to participate for exercise, recreation and socialising. We believe that sport plays a special role in the broad educational and developmental experience at university and cricket has played a central role in this philosophy. Monash has been blessed with wonderful facilities at its Clayton Campus and engagement with the community outside Monash University has been facilitated by using these facilities to bring other teams and members of the general community on to the Campus. There have been many changes to the structure of cricket at Monash. The amalgamation of Monash University with the Chisholm Institute of Technology and with the Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education in the 1990s broadened its scope.

General Business Annual Report Editor : Gordon Dry Cover : End of an era!! Tribute to Lance Dry. See article pages 2-4. 1 End of a long and illustrious era The end of the 2019 cricket season marked the end of a long and illustrious era with the retirement of Lance Dry from Premier cricket. During Lance’s involvement with the Premier team the club has enjoyed a period of unprecedented success at club and national level. After a highly successful representative record at youth and college level, Lance joined the Midland St Pats Club in 1993 from St Pats College Town and quickly made the senior side as a highly promising leg spinner and more than capable batsman. After his first season of senior cricket, Eastern Suburbs was formed with the amalgamation of Midland St Pats and Kilbirnie Cricket Club and marked the start of his Eastern Suburbs Cricket Club career. My initial recollection of first meeting Lance was of a highly confident, determined and passionate cricketer who for someone just out of college had already a clear and deep understanding of how the game should be played.
