Spring came and then went away again but it’s back and hopefully here to stay! The beer garden and hanging baskets around the building are full of yellow daffodils and red and yellow tulips, it looks lovely. There are even a few snowdrops still in bloom! The beer garden bird feeders are attracting many birds including Robins, Blue Tits and Great Tits, it’s lovely watching them feed as you dine in our Sun Gallery. Easter is just round the corner and we’re now taking bookings for the holiday period, give Ian a call to book a table to avoid disappointment.

Charity Fund Raising Thanks to everyone who supported our charity quiz in March, as ever it was a fun evening! We raised over £20 each for Wetton & Alstonefield Community First Responders and Cancer Research. We recently handed over last year's funds raised for both the First Responders and Wetton church a grand sum of over £400. We’d like to thank all our quizzers for their ongoing generosity at the quiz raffle, thanks folks!

Vacancies We are looking for weekend staff to work in the kitchen and on the bar. Please give us a call or pop in if you are interested.

Spirit of Spring We have some new drinks on the Spring menu from Vodka Tonic and posh G&T’s with a splash of Elderflower to fizz and berries and a even Prosecco Berry Royale. We also have a new cider range with over 8 to choose from. Perfect to put a little spring in your step!!!

CULTURE IN THE COUNTRY

Monthly Pub Quiz As always the quiz is the second Thursday of the month, so the next quiz will be on Thursday 13 April at 9pm. It’s £1.50 per person to enter, with cash prizes to be won!!! We provide free sarnies and chips in the ‘brain teaser’ interval round! We will be running our charity raffle as normal but as a one off this month we will be donating all money raised to a refugee child health screening pilot in Jordan. A friend of ours is heading to Jordan with a small medical team of volunteers to run a short pilot of health screening for refugee children in their temporary accommodation in mid April. We’d really like to support her and her team and the money we raise at March’s raffle will go towards 1. Buying simple health screening equipment if the pilot leads to a regular programme 2. Buying additional education equipment if it does not. For the rest of the year we’ll be continuing to support the First Responders and Cancer Research.

There’s a Storm Brewing, Meet the Brewer and Tap Take Over, 31 March 8pm. Come down and meet the brewers from Storm Brewing Co. Storm will be taking over our taps and you'll have the chance to sample their ales and also ask them questions about how they brew! Tickets for the event are £5 which includes Storm Brewing Co beer samples. Give us a call on 01335 310 287 to reserve a place! We'll be offering a special Beer Lovers Menu that night too. Sun & Snug Gallery Hartington based artist Janet Oliver is now displaying her work in the Sun Gallery, with wonderful artwork of the local area. We love her work so much that we commissioned Janet to draw the pub and it’s great and takes pride of place in our Snug Gallery. Come and dine in our galleries and admire local artists work and look out at the flowers and birds in the beer garden. Wendy Bohme from Hulme End is now exhibiting her fabulous ceramics in our Snug Gallery and her artwork in our Sun Gallery. Wendy’s work is inspired by nature, from intricate details and forms to the wider landscapes. Wendy has a gorgeous range of bee and bird friendly frost proof ceramics, including bug homes and bird feeders. Not only is Wendy’s work beautiful, she also strives to use materials that are gentle on the environment. We’re really excited about this new exhibition.

Toe Wrestling 2017 Save the date, Saturday 8 July, for this years toe wrestling extravaganza. The last two years events have been great fun, with Alan ‘Nasty’ Nash, the Guinness World Record holder, retaining his coveted title here at The Royal Oak, Wetton! We’ll be inviting him back this year to battle with contenders for his title!! We’ll also be having a kids competition as part of this family fun day out, and we’re hoping the 2016 Kids Champion, Elwood Lawson, will also be coming back to defend his title. The winners get to take home and keep, for a year, the commissioned ceramic Toe Wrestling Cups, made by local artist Gerald Unwin. More details to follow!
