The little paper with a big voice! Volume 9, Issue 32 • August 28, 2014 Teeming with information you need. (And some you don’t need, but will be glad you have anyway.) They’ve gone baaacckkkk!

Most Fairhaven students started school this week, with preschool and kindergarten starting next week. ABOVE: New fourth-grade teacher Monica Homer high-fives her students as they leave for the day on Tuesday, the first day of school for the Wood School on Sconticut Neck Road. Several students said they were scared or nervous on their first day back and that they were looking foward to ice cream for their afternoon snack. Kaia Short said she was nervous all day, but that it was still “pretty good.” Her big sister Silje said it was “kind of scary,” but since it was her second year at the school, that wore off pretty quickly. Principal Amy Hartley-Matteson said the day went off without a hitch, although the system of keeping students grouped by grade in the driveway seemed to break down after awhile. Only time will tell if the system will hold up throughout the year. Photo by Beth David.
