Lichens usually grow much slower than higher plants. Nevertheless, lichens can contribute substantially to biomass production. This review focuses on the lichen symbiosis in general and especially on the model species Lobaria pulmonaria L. Hoffm., which is a large foliose lichen that occurs worldwide on tree trunks in undisturbed forests with long ecological continuity. In comparison to many other lichens, L. pulmonaria is less tolerant to desiccation and highly sensitive to air pollution. The name- giving mycobiont (belonging to the Ascomycota), provides a protective layer covering a layer of the green-algal photobiont (Dictyochloropsis reticulata) and interspersed cyanobacterial cell clusters (Nostoc spec.). Lluís Companys 23, 08010 Barcelona, Spain ABSTRACT Fungi are a highly diverse group of heterotrophic eukaryotes characterized by the absence of phagotrophy and the presence of a chitinous cell wall. While unicellular fungi are far from rare, part of the evolutionary success of the group resides in their ability to grow indefinitely as a cylindrical multinucleated cell (hypha). Armed with these morphological traits and with an extremely high metabolical diversity, fungi have conquered numerous ecological niches and have shaped a whole world of interactions with other living organisms. Herein we survey the main evolutionary and ecological processes that have guided fungal diversity. We will first review the ecology and evolution of the zoosporic lineages and the process of terrestrialization, as one of the major evolutionary transitions in this kingdom. Several plausible scenarios have been proposed for fungal terrestralization and we here propose a new scenario, which considers icy environments as a transitory niche between water and emerged land. We then focus on exploring the main ecological relationships of Fungi with other organisms (other fungi, protozoans, animals and plants), as well as the origin of adaptations to certain specialized ecological niches within the group (lichens, black fungi and yeasts). -

Artículo de investigación Inventario florístico y vegetación del cráter de la Alberca de Teremendo, Michoacán, México Floristic inventory and vegetation of the crater of the Alberca de Teremendo, Michoacán, Mexico Jesús Contreras León1, 2 y Patricia Silva Sáenz1 Resumen: Antecedentes y Objetivos: El cráter de la Alberca de Teremendo de los Reyes, municipio Morelia, es una de las tres albercas volcánicas que existen en Michoacán, México. Actualmente, cuenta únicamente con investigaciones enfocadas al estudio de la calidad del agua y las algas, pero carece de un inventario florístico. Los objetivos de este estudio fueron elaborar una lista de la flora vascular y describir su vegetación. Métodos: Se realizaron 27 recorridos en campo entre octubre 2013 y septiembre 2015, realizando recolectas de material vegetal registrando el hábi- tat, vegetación y forma biológica de las especies. Se describió la vegetación respecto a su composición, estructura y localización. Se calculó el índice de biodiversidad taxonómica para definir la riqueza de especies por hectárea en comparación con otros estudios regionales. Resultados clave: Se registraron 316 especies de plantas y 12 taxa infraespecíficos, pertenecientes a 228 géneros y 85 familias. La familia mejor re- presentada fue Asteraceae con 39 especies (12.3% del total); a nivel genérico fue Euphorbia con siete especies (2.2%); herbáceas dominan con 235 taxones (74.1%). La vegetación que se describe corresponde a una comunidad vegetal de matorral subtropical, la cual es la mejor representada por la superficie que abarca con aproximadamente 57.3 ha, asociada con elementos de bosque tropical caducifolio, vegetación acuática y subacuática, pastizal y plantas arvenses. -
