For an inside look, see pages 6 and 7. Splitting Up Saks Inc.: Belk Said Among Suitors For Department Stores By David Moin NEW YORK — A breakup of Saks Inc. appears to be in the works. Sources said Tuesday that Saks Inc., which is based in Birmingham, Ala., is attempting to line up buyers for its 235- unit department store group, with Belk Inc. as a primary suitor. There are other parties said to be interested in the Saks department stores, including two private equity firms, Blackstone Group and Apollo Advisors. These same equity firms also are said to be interested in the Neiman Marcus Group. Here, alumni, parents, colleagues and friends share memories and reflections of his extraordinary impact on this community. Through John’s gifts, people not only experienced music of the highest caliber, but were also drawn deeper into the mystery of God. For all of us, John’s death was a terrible shock. It has caused us to reflect on how fragile life can be. Even as we have moved forward at the Choir School, we continue to miss him and entrust him to God’s care and protection. I asked John, who was then forty-seven but had been at St. Paul’s since his mid-twenties, would he be interested in coming to Saint Thomas? He would be interested, he replied, but that if I would please understand he would like not to have to apply. Very well; would he give me his resume? Yes, he would. This was pure John. As John prepared to leave St. Paul’s, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth made him a Lieutenant of the Victorian Order (LVO) for his distinguished services to the Crown at London’s great cathedral, where John led the music for many royal and state occasions – not to mention the daily round of choral evensongs and other liturgies.

[email protected] Abstract This study highlights a number of different aspects regarding uniforms and dress codes in the United Kingdom (UK) and Sweden. The study comprises three parts: a quantitative comparison of GCSE pass rates for schools in the UK that do and do not have school uniforms, a qualitative survey study of Scottish High School pupils' perceptions about their uniform and a qualitative interview study of Swedish teachers, administrators and pupils about their school dress, rules regarding school dress and school uniforms. Regarding whether uniforms improved academic results by comparing GCSE pass rates in the UK we were unable to find conclusive evidence to suggest that schools which had uniform policies performed significantly better than other schools. Regarding Scottish pupils’ perceptions of their uniforms, pupils from lower-educated backgrounds were more likely to perceive that they were told off by teachers about not wearing the correct dress. When asked whether pupils felt more equal compared to their peers, those from lower-educated background were more likely to think that uniforms do not help to level out class difference compared to pupils from better educated backgrounds. Regarding bullying, even though uniforms existed at the school studied bullying due to what pupils wore to school still existed and pupils perceived that bullying due to other factors such as physical appearance also occurred.

    2 February 2018 From the Principal’s Desk Kia ora Welcome to Menzies College 2018. This is the first newsletter for the school year and from now on will be printed fortnightly. On Wednesday morning we welcomed 67 new students and five new staff into the school with a wonderful Powhiri. It was so heartening to again, feel the spirit of the school as our other students made everyone welcome and ensured new students comfortably found their way around their new environment. The school starts the year with a roll of 323 which is a very pleasing number and a slight increase on last year but a lot more than six years ago. Thank you to the parents/caregivers that also attended on Wednesday. We look forward to working with all new parents in our community to make the best possible gains with your child. We are still finalising student and staff timetables and problem clashes will iron themselves out in the next week. An early indication of NCEA results show we are on par with expectations. The difference this year is the high quality of the results from those who passed. Our students gained 133 subject endorsements last year and 37 overall NCEA Level Endorsements, almost twice as many as the year before which at that time had been our best. We are really pleased that students value the importance of endorsements and the benefits they bring when looking for employment or tertiary study opportunities. We will host our GF Walker Awards next Friday 9 February from 2.20pm in the hall to celebrate the success of these students and also present House and Committee Leaders with their badges.

    Uniform expectations. At the start of our autumn term, children are expected to wear their summer uniform, up until half term. After this, we transition to winter uniform. Children stay in their winter uniform until the start of the summer term (after Easter). Formal uniforms are to be worn on non-sports days. All children from Pre – Nursery to Year 3, need to wear their hat or boater whenever they are in their formal uniform. Blazers are to be worn by all children whenever in their formal uniform. All school items must be clearly labelled, with the child’s full name.     Updated Fall 2020 APPEARANCE AND UNIFORM POLICY Our school uniform policy encourages students to focus on grooming that presents a positive image of our young people and our school. Neatness, cleanliness, and appropriateness in dress and appearance are conducive to an academic atmosphere and will be expected of all Gesu students at all times. While dressed in the Gesu School uniform at school and in public places, all students’ conduct, actions, and language will be consistent with the philosophy and values of Gesu Catholic School. Faculty and administration reserve the right to determine if a student is dressed in a manner consistent with the Gesu School uniform policy. Students found to be in violation of the uniform policy may be asked to correct their attire or call home for proper clothing. This may result in a loss of class time and/or possible disciplinary action. The administration reserves the right to revise, assess, and review this policy at any time. Apparel: ● Hair is to be well groomed and combed. Haircuts for boys should be above their ears, eyebrows, and collars. Highlighting or dyeing of hair for either boys or girls is not permitted. ● Gesu School permits students (boys and girls) to wear only sweatshirts purchased from Schoolbelles, in red, navy, and hunter green or the navy quarter zip Gesu sweatshirt (available online at the Gesu Spiritwear Web Store).     LOWER SCHOOL DRESS CODE (GRADES 1-5) Parents should purchase School apparel from Lands’ End. Please call 1.800.963.4816 or purchase online at www.landsend.com/school. Dwight School’s preferred school number is #9000-8856-8. BOYS Trousers: Khaki or navy tailored trousers. Cotton, wool, and corduroy are all permitted. Bermuda length shorts may be worn when temperatures exceed 75 degrees Fahrenheit (it is not required that trousers be purchased from Lands’ End). Shirt: Dwight School navy or white short-sleeved polo shirt or long-sleeved polo shirt with School crest on the chest. Dwight School navy or white turtleneck or mock turtleneck with School crest. White long-sleeved dress shirt to be worn with Dwight School’s tie (hunter/classic navy plaid tie available through Lands’ End). Blazer or Sweater: Dwight School navy blazer with school crest on left-side chest. Dwight School navy crew-neck, zipper, button-down, or V-neck sweater with School crest on left- side chest.
