No. 3 Florida versus No. 14 Kentucky A trio of 2017 firsts are set for the Gators this Friday. In 1976 a young Romanian woman, Nadia Comăneci, was the first Olympic gymnast to score a 10 on any event in gymnastics. Her routine was flawless. You can watch her routine at here; http://www.yummymath.com/2012/perfect-10/. Ten is no longer a perfect score. So how will gymnasts be scored at this year’s Olympics? Beware; this is a very simplified summary of the new scoring for women’s artistic gymnastics. There will be 8 judges for each gymnast's routine. Two of the judges will give a score for the difficulty of the routine (D score) and 6 judges will rank the execution score (E-score). Each contestant will receive 2 scores for each routine ... a D-score and an E-score. § The D-score (or Difficulty score) evaluates the content of the exercise on three criteria: the Difficulty Value (DV), Composition Requirements (CR) and Connection Value (CV). • DV: The difficulty value of the eight highest value elements of the routine, including the dismount, is added together. Elements are ranked depending on their difficulty. Each element in a routine has a point value based on its difficulty, starting at zero and increasing by one-tenth for each subsequent level. Therefore, an “A” level skill is given a point value of one-tenth whereas an “E” level skill has a point value of five-tenths. • CR: Gymnasts must demonstrate skills from five required Element Groups on each apparatus.

    NATIONAL COLLEGIATE WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018 Championship 2 History 6 National Seeds 20 Regionals 21 Brackets 44 2018 CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS UCLA wins women’s gymnastics national championship: it was a storybook ending for UCLA as the Bruins won their seventh national collegiate women’s gymnastics championship with a perfect 10.0000 on the final routine of the competition in St. Louis, Missouri, upending two-time defending champion Oklahoma in the process. The Sooners led the then-third place Bruins by .175 entering the final rotation, but the UCLA women would not be denied. Building on the momentum gained from senior Peng-Peng Lee’s perfect performance on the uneven bars, the Bruins moved to beam and scored a Super Six and championship record 49.7500 in the final event to win the competition 198.0750-198.0375. “This team truly is the easiest team that I’ve ever coached,” UCLA head coach Valorie Kondos Field said. “That is because this time last year we said if we need, if we want, a different result we’ve got to do things differently, and what started that was me and our coaching staff just getting real with the team about getting as physically fit as you individually can get and making choices outside of the gym, those of a champion.” UCLA’s epic final beam rotation began with a big score of 9.9375 by Grace Glenn. A fall by Olympian Madison Kocian forced the Bruins to hit on their final four routines, and Brielle Nguyen, Katelyn Ohashi and Kyla Ross stepped up to post individual scores of 9.8750, 9.9500 and 9.9875, respectively.
