Creating a Hummingbird Friendly Environment
Here are a few tips to help you invite hummingbirds to your yard:
Containers with plants attractive to hummingbirds in or near outdoor living spaces will bring fearless hummers in closer for ob servation.
Hostas and impatiens are wonderful plants to bring hummingbirds into shady
areas of the landscape. Vining plants with trumpet shaped flowers are a par ticular favorite of
hummingbirds. Allowing these plants to climb on trellises or deck rails is another way to bring hummers in closer.
Red and Orange are favorite colors of the hummingbirds. Plants that bloom in
these colors will attract the hungry eye of hummers more quickly. At least two feeding stations separated by 5 or 6 feet are recommended as
hummingbirds can be very territorial. Flowering trees that produce a deep or trumpet shap ed flower like catalpa and
buckeye will also attract hummingbirds to your yard .
