Swim Lessons Descriptions Swim Lessons Program The following are fundamental training skills. Please read carefully and choose the Level you think is best for your child. The swim staff reserves the right to move children into a different level based on 1st day performance, age, class size, and other factors. All classes include basic safety skills as well. SKILL LEVELS & SKILLS DESCRIPTION AGES Parent & Tot Ask permission before entering water, water entry and exit, build comfort level in the water, explore 6 mos-3yrs submerging mouth, nose, eyes, and completely, explore buoyancy on front and back, change body position 30 minutes in water, wearing a lifejacket. An adult must participate in the water with the child (1:1 ratio). Roll over from front to back & vice versa. Advance from floating to front & 40 minutes back glides. Swim on front & back using combined strokes. Step entry, tread water using arm & leg motion. Ages 5 & older Level 3 Jump into deep water, rotary breathing, change from horizontal to vertical position on front & back. 40 minutes Demonstrate front crawl, back crawl. Introduction of arm motion & leg motion for elementary backstroke & breaststroke. Ages 5 & older Level 4 Develop confidence in the following strokes: front & back crawl, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. 40 minutes Treading water, open turns. Introduction of arm & leg motion for sidestroke & breaststroke. Ages 5 & older Level 5 Provides further coordination of Level 4 strokes and increase in endurance, surface dives, flip turns. 40 minutes Develop confidence in sidestroke and butterfly. Ages 5 & older Level 6 Refinement of all strokes so student can swim with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over 40 minutes greater distances. Practice turns for all strokes. Ages 5 & older .
