hri Ram Nath Kovind, President of SIndia was the Reviewing Officer for the Passing Out Parade of 134 Course NDA on May 30, 2018. A total 344 cadets graduated from the Academy as they passed through the portals of the prestigious Khetrapal Parade Ground. This included 238 cadets from the Army, 26 cadets from the Navy and 80 cadets from the Air Force. This also includes 15 cadets from the friendly foreign countries who passed out from the Academy. The cadets are from Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, Kazakhstan, Lesotho and Tajikistan. Shri Ram Nath Kovind, President of India, reviewed the parade and addressed the Passing-out-Course cadets wherein he complemented the cadets for their exceptional drill movements. He congratulated the cadets and parents of the Passing Out Course. He mentioned the pride he felt in reviewing the Parade. He also made a special mention of the award winners. aksha Mantri Smt Nirmala RSitharaman flagged-in the expedition team of National Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports (NIMAS) to Mount Everest on June 6, 2018. Smt Sitharaman congratulated the team led by Director and Team Leader Col Sarfraz Singh for their remarkable achievement. It is for the first time that any National Institute expedition team has put eight members on the top of Mt Everest in their maiden attempt. The expedition started from South Ridge of Mt Everest from Nepal side on April 2, 2018 from Lukla to Everest Base camp via Namche. The team scaled Mt Lobuche in Nepal on April 20, 2018 as part of acclimatisation and final conditioning training. The rotational training to higher camps was carried out by the team upto Camp-3 (7200M) from April 22 to May 10, 2018. he Raksha Rajya Mantri Dr TSubhash Ramrao Bhamre inaugurated the 578 metre-long Theng Tunnel in Sikkim, on June 7, 2018. On arriving at Bagdogra Airport, the RRM was received by Lt Gen PM Bali, GOC Trishakti Corps who accompanied him to Chungthang in North Sikkim for inauguration of the tunnel. The 578 meter-long double lane tunnel is the longest tunnel in Sikkim and has been constructed on Gangtok – Chungthang State Highway by the Border Roads Organisation. The tunnel bypasses a treacherous stretch of road between Sikkim's capital Gangtok and Chungthang, which is frequently prone to closure due to land slides and shooting stones and will provide all weather connectivity. Besides shortening the distance, the tunnel will improve operational mobility as well as provide great relief to tourists and citizens travelling to North Sikkim. Later, the Minister called on the

he Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Raksha Mantri Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, met on June 7, 2018 Tand accorded approval for the procurement of equipment for the Defence Forces valued at over Rs 5500 crore. Pursuing the goal of indigenisation and self-reliance in the field of Defence Procurements, the DAC approved procurement of 12 High Power Radars for the Indian Air Force under ‘Buy (Indian) IDDM’ category. The radars will provide long range medium and high altitude radar cover with the capability to detect and track high speed targets following parabolic trajectories. Technologically superior, the radars will have the capability to scan 360 degree without mechanical rotation of Antenna and will operate on 24 x 7 basis with minimal maintenance requirement. Their procurement will enhance the overall efficacy of the Air Defence network in the country. The DAC also accorded approval for procurement of Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs) for the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Army from Indian Shipyard. These vessels would offer great advantage over conventional boats/crafts with their ability to travel at very high speeds over shallow water, sand banks, mud flats and swamps which are non-navigable by boats/small crafts due to draught restrictions/uncharted depths.
