Debuting at their new home of Stewart Burnett Park, the Aurora men found themselves down early to Master's Futbol of Toronto Saturday night when a cross found the back of the net 14 minutes in. Karamvir Mehmi notched his first goal with the Aurora club just a few minutes later, though Aurora found themselves down 2 ? 1 heading into the half. With just twelve minutes to go before stoppage time, Morey Doner put home a pair of back-to-back goals to give Aurora its first lead of the game, though Masters found the 3 ? 3 equalizer before the final whistle. "It's a new field, out first game and I thought they put on a great performance," said Aurora head coach Derek O'Keeffe. "Unfortunate not to win, but credit to the team for getting a point in the first game. It was a good experience out and most of our players tonight are younger, and they held their own." O'Keeffe said he was ?satisfied? with his team's opening performance. "The way we approached the game in terms of our mindset, our attitude, our mentality, was second to none and I just think we need to keep that going and we can be a very competitive team this year." The men return to the pitch at University of Windsor Stadium on Sunday, before returning home to host the Vaughan Azzurri on May 13.

HEAD COACH MARTIN PAINTER Martin Painter (B.A. 1998, LL.B 2002, B.Ed. 2007), a member of the West- ern Mustangs 1999 men’s national championship soccer team, returns as head coach of the Mustangs women’s soccer program for his sixth season after spending five seasons as head coach of the Fanshawe College women’s program from 2007-11. In addition, he has served as head coach of the USL Premier Development League’s FC London and is now the head coach of K-W United FC. After officially joining the team in December 2011, Painter has coached the Mustangs to two consecutive OUA silver medal finishes in 2013, and 2014. Additionally, 2013 saw Painter win both OUA West Coach of the Year, and CIS Coach of the Year. In 2016 Painter led his squad to an OUA bronze medal, while 2017 saw his team capture silver at the OUA Final Four, earning him OUA West Coach of the Year honours. In 2009, Painter led Fanshawe to an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) title and runner-up finish at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Associa- tion (CCAA) Championship. That runner-up finish was the best national placing ever for a women’s soccer team from the OCAA. The 2011 season saw Painter named OCAA Coach of the Year as he led the Falcons to a bronze medal at the OCAA Championship. Painter’s success on the pitch carried over to his tenure at the helm of FC Lon- don, where he guided his team to a record of 19-3-10 in 2010 and was a nomi- nee for Premier Development League (PDL) Coach of the Year after leading his team to the playoffs in back-to-back years in 2009 and 2010.

  • Aurora FC Shut out in Toronto
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Thu Sep 30 0:04:18 2021 / +0000 GMT Aurora FC shut out in Toronto By Jake Courtepatte A pair of undisciplined plays were the undoing for the Aurora FC men in their 2 ? 0 loss to the Sanjaxx Lions on Sunday. Penalty kicks at the 35th and 40th minute marks of the match at Monarch Stadium in Toronto each found twine behind goalkeeper Alexander Jakma, while Aurora failed to score on a penalty kick of their own. Aurora head coach Derek O'Keeffe was frustrated with the result, calling it a ?poor game of football all around.? ?I thought both teams were poor,? he said. ?I thought we started quite well, probably should have scored an early goal but didn't. I don't fault the effort of our players, I thought they tried. I don't think Sanjaxx created anything other than the two penalties and we had one of our own but couldn't score. ?If you don't take your chances, you don't score or win - simple as that.? Aurora, which has fallen to 1-11-1 in the East division standings this season, will have a chance to gain some ground when they visit ProStars FC at Avondale Stadium this Saturday: one of two teams in League 1 Ontario without a win this year. The women's side of Aurora FC found success in week 14 of the League 1 season, squeaking out a 4 ? 3 win over a lowly Darby FC squad. Though Darby opened the scoring at the 20-minute mark, Aurora notched three goals in the course of five minutes late in the first half to take a 3 ? 1 lead into the break.

  • Aurora FC Earns First Clean Sheet of League 1 Season
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Tue Sep 28 22:48:08 2021 / +0000 GMT Aurora FC earns first clean sheet of League 1 season By Jake Courtepatte Something had to give. The men's side of Aurora FC broke a six-game winning streak on Saturday when they earned their second win of the season, a 2 ? 0 shutout of ProStars FC of Brampton. Despite the ProStars continuing to search for the first win of the season, the first seventy-five minutes of the match was a stalemate. Aurora put pressure on the ProStars defense throughout the first half, though both teams went to the break without a shot on goal. It was Jared Agyemang that opened the scoring with just fifteen minutes to go in regulation time, his third of the season, taking advantage of a mistake by the goalkeeper that sent him the other way. Karamvir Mehmi scored in stoppage time, sneaking one in from close range, in his season debut after just eight minutes on the field. Adam Scanlon and Alexander Jakma split the time in goal to earn Aurora its first clean sheet of the 2017 season. The win is just the first step in a long journey to climb up the League 1 Ontario rankings, still ten points back of the sixth place Master's Futbol while sitting in seventh with a record of 2-11-1. They sit seven points up on the winless Toronto Skillz FC. Back in action on Saturday at St. Maximilian Kolbe field, the men will be in tough when they host the 12-2-0 Oakville Blue Devils in a cross-division match, the leaders of the West division.
