  • Aurora FC Pulls Draw, Loss in League 1 Opening Weekend
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Sat Sep 25 10:49:34 2021 / +0000 GMT Aurora FC pulls draw, loss in League 1 opening weekend By Jake Courtepatte The Aurora FC men managed to claw back to pick up a point in Saturday's League 1 season opener, while the women were left scratching their heads in a shutout loss. Debuting at their new home of Stewart Burnett Park, the Aurora men found themselves down early to Master's Futbol of Toronto Saturday night when a cross found the back of the net 14 minutes in. Karamvir Mehmi notched his first goal with the Aurora club just a few minutes later, though Aurora found themselves down 2 ? 1 heading into the half. With just twelve minutes to go before stoppage time, Morey Doner put home a pair of back-to-back goals to give Aurora its first lead of the game, though Masters found the 3 ? 3 equalizer before the final whistle. "It's a new field, out first game and I thought they put on a great performance," said Aurora head coach Derek O'Keeffe. "Unfortunate not to win, but credit to the team for getting a point in the first game. It was a good experience out and most of our players tonight are younger, and they held their own." O'Keeffe said he was ?satisfied? with his team's opening performance. "The way we approached the game in terms of our mindset, our attitude, our mentality, was second to none and I just think we need to keep that going and we can be a very competitive team this year." The men return to the pitch at University of Windsor Stadium on Sunday, before returning home to host the Vaughan Azzurri on May 13.

  • Aurora United Sunk by Skillz FC As Season Draws to Close
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Fri Oct 1 9:28:49 2021 / +0000 GMT Aurora United sunk by Skillz FC as season draws to close By Jake Courtepatte Another multi-goal effort from All-Star Simon Adjei was not enough for Aurora United FC to best their division rival Toronto Skillz FC on Sunday. Adjei struck twice in the first 45 minutes of action in Scarborough, though it would be the end of Aurora's offence as Skillz took the match 4 ? 2 to move ahead of Aurora in the table. The pair of goals moved Adjei into a solo second spot in league scoring leaders, with seventeen on the season. Zakariae Mahrady ranks second on the Aurora side in goals, with three. It was a crucial match for both Aurora and Toronto, with Toronto overtaking Aurora in the East for sixth place in the eight-team table. Aurora's record sits at 3-12-3. With only four games left in the season, Aurora finds themselves at home at Sheppard's Bush three times, where they found success with a pair of wins in late August. They host the league-leading Vaughan Azzurri (14-1-4) on home turf Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7.30 p.m. The Aurora women's side returns from a two-week break on Friday for their final game of the season, on the road to face Darby FC (1-11-3). The rookie squad found their groove in August, rattling off three straight wins, thanks mostly to the heavy foot of international star Sarah Stratigakis.
