Six teams, three spots, two more games for the Panthers at home to The Panthers are coming off a big win against Darby F.C. on the road clinch. in Whitby last week. The win gives them a three-point advantage This week, they play Windsor TFC. They aren’t one of the teams in over Darby, who they were tied for in points this year, being in contention for the playoffs, being in 13th place out of 17 teams in eighth place at 17 (the top eight teams make the playoffs). The win League1. What they can gain is pride. puts them in sole possession of seventh place, with 20 points and a record of 6-5-2 going into this week. A team in that position can be dangerous, as they both have nothing to lose and can be underestimated by their opponent. Coach Balta But there are plenty of other teams waiting in the wings. Like the Panthers, who have had 12 different goal scorers, this year, Windsor TFC tends to score by committee. The team’s 11 goals this year are spread over eight players, with no individual players having more than three (courtesy Leonardo Ferreira DaSilva). There isn’t a player on Windsor that their opponents can afford to ignore. But the Panthers also know that with 28 goals scored against Windsor TFC (3W, 8L, 1D, 10 points, 13th Place) Windsor this year, there is an opportunity to put hard pressure in the July 19, 2019 offensive zone, which Balta has been emphasizing all year. Debuting at their new home of Stewart Burnett Park, the Aurora men found themselves down early to Master's Futbol of Toronto Saturday night when a cross found the back of the net 14 minutes in. Karamvir Mehmi notched his first goal with the Aurora club just a few minutes later, though Aurora found themselves down 2 ? 1 heading into the half. With just twelve minutes to go before stoppage time, Morey Doner put home a pair of back-to-back goals to give Aurora its first lead of the game, though Masters found the 3 ? 3 equalizer before the final whistle. "It's a new field, out first game and I thought they put on a great performance," said Aurora head coach Derek O'Keeffe. "Unfortunate not to win, but credit to the team for getting a point in the first game. It was a good experience out and most of our players tonight are younger, and they held their own." O'Keeffe said he was ?satisfied? with his team's opening performance. "The way we approached the game in terms of our mindset, our attitude, our mentality, was second to none and I just think we need to keep that going and we can be a very competitive team this year." The men return to the pitch at University of Windsor Stadium on Sunday, before returning home to host the Vaughan Azzurri on May 13.

  • Aurora FC Stopped Short by Unbeaten Clubs
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Mon Sep 27 12:23:09 2021 / +0000 GMT Aurora FC stopped short by unbeaten clubs By Jake Courtepatte Both sides of Aurora FC entered week six looking to hand their opponents their first loss of the League1 Ontario season, yet both remained unbeaten when the dust cleared. The men entered Sunday's matchup on the opposite end of the spectrum from their opponent Toronto FC III, still in search of their first win of the season while the Junior Reds enjoyed a three-game winning streak. Aurora head coach Derek O'Keeffe knew his team's best chance at a win was by playing a defensive style of game, allowing Toronto most of the possession in the first half though limiting their chances. Poor luck was the culprit behind Toronto's opening goal at the 23-minute mark, when a mistimed tackle by an Aurora defender took down a Toronto attacker in the box. Goaltender Adam Scanlon guessed wrong on the penalty kick, giving Toronto an early 1 ? 0 lead, though Aurora stormed back thirteen minutes later when team scoring leaders Dylan Rennie and Morey Doner connected to tie the score on their only shot of the half. Surprising Toronto by bringing a 1 ? 1 tie into halftime, the league's top team brought their offense early in the second half, beating Scanlon in close to once again take the lead. Toronto put the game away for good on a tap-in in the 67th minute, while Aurora managed zero shots on net in the latter frame.
