MR. FOX, PRINCIPAL

An ancient Greek philosopher once said that the purpose of education is to persuade a person to like what he should like ond to dislike what he should dislike. One of the saddest things in our world is ignorance. It is bad enough to have a lack of knowledge of things, people and events, but it is far worse not to know that th,ere are better things in life than what one is doing and thinking. An education helps everyone to formulate a set of values to live by, to try to do these better things. The time each student spends in school helps him to think clearly and to arrive at good judgements about the relative importance of the various kinds of activity that make up human life. It opens up to everyone, by pro viding standards, the opportunity and ability to judge values. It enables everyone to determine what is right or wrong, what is true or false, what is essential or trivial, and what will contribute to his happiness in life. I sincerely hope that all of our graduates will have developed a frame of mind, of thought and of judgement, which will enable them to handle themselves graciously and with ease in any environment and will have achieved a peace of mind and understanding which one must have to support one through the crises that come to all of us. Early in the school year we presented the comedy " Sunday Costs Five Pesos" after classes in the cafeteria. Because it proved successful we have begun work on an evening of dramatic readings and casting for " The Mousetrap" by Agatha Christie, which we hope to present in the third term. Our membership has expanded and the club has attracted more junior students than it has in previous years. Danny Bobb is the president and Averil Holton is the secretary. Much credit should be given to Miss Nykor for her time, guidance, and especially her patience. Averil Holton.

MASTER CADETS The Master Cadets this year were under the command of Mr. Feaver, and instructed by Cadet Major Aitchison and Cadet Major Dutka. This group takes advanced training throughout the winter in various fields ranging from map reading and the use of small arms to national survival. Bill Colvin BANFF '64 Summer began for me on June 27th when I left Windsor to spend two weeks in preparing myself and other Ontario Cadets who were to go to Banff. The three day trip passed quickly while we read, slept and played cards. On the morning of the third day, we could see the Rockies off in the distance and by afternoon, we had arrived. Our last moments on the train were ones of hectic confusion while everybody gave their berths one last check. When everyone was off the train, we boarded busses and were driven to the camp. The camp itself was set at the end of a valley surrounded SIGNALS by Mt. Cascade and Mt. Norquey.
