There is a whole lot more in this edition thankfully. A bumper 38 pages to see you through to Christmas. In a month which started out with lots of promise, the 2nd wave of the virus has blown up in a massive way. This has led to the suspension of the Leagues in Vancouver but the Island has still played albeit with schedule changes. We have added the latest return to play information for most of the Provinces. We are super happy to announce that our first club spotlight is on new team Cook Street United from Vancouver Island Soccer League’s 4th Division. We also have a history of the 1st year Canadian teams took part in the forerunner of the USL League 2. Also in this edition is first Fill In The Blanks where we ask the readers if they have any information on a page in the Canadian Soccer History Database. This month we start in Newfoundland with the Burin Eagles. We have news from around the provinces and around the Leagues with the usual comprehensive round up for what was a very different month than was anticipated in the Vancouver Island Soccer League 1st Division courtesy of Vince Greco. While nothing has been announced by either team it is widely believed that both 1812FC from Barrie and Peterborough’s Electric City FC have applied for membership. There has been no announcements as of yet regarding the line up of clubs for next year. League1 club news has seen Prostars FC and CK Football Solutions announce a long-term cooperation. According to their announcement they are one of the few Canadian clubs that have the distinct title "Member Association Status Level 1 Club" of the Canadian Football Association. CK Soccer Solutions, founded in 2017 by Clemens Krueger, who has many years’ experience with German professional club management along with excellent network and drives the strategic orientation and organic growth of the agency with exciting projects. Also they announced that they were happy to appoint and welcome, Kennedi Herrmann as the Director of their up and coming female program. Kennedi has coached for Peel Panthers soccer academy, Erin Mills, Final 3rd soccer (supplemental technical training). She is an ISSA certified personal trainer and holds a bachelor of science degree. Oakville Blue Devils staff are proud to welcome Khody Ellis as the Academy’s new Strength and Conditioning Coach. Technical Director Brett Mosen announced on Thursday that the Blue Devils Academy has made a new hiring in the physical fitness department, “the Blue Devils are committed to improving this area, and assist our players in improving this vitally important component of their game.” He believes Ellis is the person for the job because he knows what it takes, “the game at the highest level is a million miles per hour. The fitness levels required are enormous. We believe bringing Khody in to oversee this program will have an impact on the players.” The 4x League1 Ontario All-Star wanted this role so that he could create a platform that goes beyond the traditional fitness model for all of the OBD academy. “It is my belief that to achieve higher performance in sport you must focus on the total well-being of an athlete. It’s about taking your health and performance to the next level by focusing on movement, mindset, nutrition, and recovery as a whole.” Khody Ellis is a Strength and Conditioning Coach and Fascial Stretch Therapist at Peaks Lifestyle away from the pitch, and will be bringing the lessons he’s learned professionally to the Blue Devils FC team he knows so well. “For me, it’s about helping all academy players develop a strong educational foundation in safe and effective movement, and mental performance. I can’t express enough how vital strength training is for the development of young athletes, and I am looking forward to being the person to bring this to the club that I love and have dedicated the last 5 years to.” At the time of going to press there was no information regarding expansion of the Leagues and no news from the PLSQ or the USL League 1. Hopefully there will be more to report as the months go on. LORI D’ANDREA LEAVES AFTER 8 YEARS SERVICE After eight years of dedicated service to the BC Soccer Association, it is with mixed emotions that BC Soccer announces the departure of Lori D’Andrea as Director of Community Development. With much vigour, Lori joined the Association as a member services intern 8 years ago, before transitioning into a coordinator’s role and then becoming the Member Services Manager. As her responsibilities expanded, so too did her understanding and contribution to the Association. In 2015, she was promoted to the Director of Community Development position where she oversaw the staff in this department and supported not only member services, but also competitions/provincial cups, referee programming, general operations, and judicial. During her time, Lori has contributed greatly to BC Soccer operations in several key areas including membership support and guidance, governance/ bylaws rules regulations improvements, internal system development (CRM), enhancements to policies and procedures (especially in Judicial), along with programming/event oversight and enhancements. She has also been instrumental in leading the discussion on membership concerns including amalgamation, and private/for-profit inclusion. “On behalf of the board, staff, membership and soccer community in BC, I want to thank Lori for the valuable contribution she has made to not only better the association but also the sport that she grew up playing and still loves.”, said Jason Elligott, Executive Director. “Her work ethic and detailed understanding will be missed daily”.
