He gives an overview about most frequently used aircraft and their tactical-technical features. The article demonstrates that the close air support is one of the most important components of the tactics success and it was since the appearance of the aerial warfare. Rezümé A szerző ismerteti a lényegét a második világháborús Luftwaffe közvetlen légi támogatási doktrínájának, a végrehajtásért felelős szervezetnek és a légi vezetési és irányítási rendszernek. Introduction The close air support (generally supporting the land forces from air with fire) one of the most important components of the tactics success and it was since the appearance of the aerial warfare. According to the definition of close air support (CAS): „air action against hostile targets which are in close proximity to friendly forces and which require detailed integration of each air mission with the fire and movement of those forces” 1 At the beginning of the world war II, only the Luftwaffe had made a theory of deployment and a tactical-technical procedures for direct fire support for ground forces. -

Johnson* INTRODUCTION Gun control in the United States generally has meant some type of supply regulation. Some rules are uncontroversial like user- targeted restrictions that define the untrustworthy and prohibit them from accessing the legitimate supply.' Some have been very controversial like the District of Columbia's recently overturned law prohibiting essentially the entire population from possessing firearms.! Other contentious restrictions have focused on particular types of guns-e.g., the now expired Federal Assault Weapons Ban.' Some laws, like one-gun-a-month,4 target straw purchases but also constrict overall supply. Various other supply restrictions operate at the state and local level. -

INTRODUCTION To-date I’ve written 6 Reference Guides on the British built and designed sporting gliders of what I might term the “wooden” era – Slingsbys, Elliotts of Newbury, Abbott Baynes (Scuds), BAC, the Scott gliders, and the Bill Manuel gliders. These account for at least 98% of all the wooden gliders ever built in Great Britain. There are of course a few smaller manufacturers, especially in the formative days of the British gliding movement in the early 1930s, RFD and Cloudcraft are two of these. Additionally there’s a plethora of “one offs”, principally Primaries, again mostly built in the early 1930s. I don’t propose to write these up as for the great majority of the remaining 2% we’re talking 80 years ago at least, and there’s no connect at all with the modern day and consequently very little interest unless it’s for the outright gliding aficionado. However, whilst they’re most definitely not sporting gliders there is one subject I think there is a justification to cover, and that’s the one of British military gliders. Spawned by the Second World War military gliders held centre stage for only a very few years, the advent of the troop carrying helicopter consigning them to history. Note all of the British military gliders were named after famous military figures whose name began with an “H”. They were constantly striving to maximize aircraft firepower against the wide variety of targets they had to deal with. Weapons fire used to bring down a heavily armed 4-engine bomber is not the same as that required to effectively deal with a fast and maneuverable fighter in a dog fight. German fighter armament options ranged from rifle-calibre light machine guns, to 30mm cannon, mostly configured as mixed arrays of cowl and wing mounted weapons. (Larger 37mm & 50mm guns were used for "tank-busting" and other ground attack roles.) By contrast, Allied forces were fond of homogeneous wing mounted arrays. The British almost exclusively used the .303 light machine gun and later, 20mm cannon. The U.S. quickly adopted the Browning M2 .50 caliber heavy machine gun, far and above the most common aircraft weapon used by the U.S. in Europe. The 20mm being more common in the Pacific theater. There is endless debate over the benefits and disadvantages of the types and combinations of guns used, which goes beyond the scope of this narrative. Simply put, there is a limited amount of weight and space you can devote to the weapons system. Typically, the bigger the round, the heavier the gun and slower the rate of fire.
