This canyon, formed over millions of years by volcanic activity, lies just below the mighty Hoover Dam where the canyon walls rise nearly 2,000 feet from the river’s edge. The Black Canyon is unique in its landscape, history, and close proximity to wildlife. Learn about and experience the history of Hoover Dam, the Colorado River, the geological formation of the canyon, and nature up close. The canyon is home to Bighorn sheep, Red-tailed hawks, Great Blue Heron and a variety of other flora and fauna. Postcard Tour Don’t have all day to spend on the river? Take the Hoover Dam Postcard Tour that allows visitors to view the Hoover Dam, the bypass bridge and journey just far enough down river to feel the canyon’s surreal setting. See up close and personal the concrete slabs, steps and rails used to build the dam. Cancellation less than 10 days prior to date of raft trip will result in the forfeiture of the entire payment. Minimum charter price is locked in 10 days prior to event date and no less than 25 full-fare passengers. All changes must be made in writing, by fax or email. Special Permit is required for video equipment, weddings, or any special events.     Water Trail 1 Lake Mead National Recreation Area—Black Canyon National Water Trail The 26-mile long Black Canyon Water Trail is located along a rugged and remote portions of the Colorado River in Nevada and Arizona within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The trail begins at the base of the Hoover Dam and meanders through Black Canyon along 26 miles of the Colorado River. The trail ends at Eldorado Canyon, a historic mining area on Lake Mohave. This spectacular river setting provides unique paddling and rafting opportunities alongside wilderness. Visitors can stop at sandy beach- Kayaking is Very Popular es, colorful caves, plentiful coves and active hot springs. Desert Bighorn Sheep and other wildlife such as bald eagles, peregrine fal- cons, red-tailed hawks, osprey, cormorants and waterfowl are often seen along the route.
