DESENVOLVIMENTO DE UMA PROPOSTA METODOLÓGICA PARA ESTUDOS DE VAZÕES AMBIENTAIS NA BACIA DO RIO PIABANHA Camilla Hellen Peixoto de Lima Junho/2019 Orientadores: Renato Nascimento Elias Stuart Edward Bunn Francisco Olivera Programa: Engenharia Civil Embora no Brasil a ciência das vazões ambientais ainda seja um tema pouco explorado, a estrutura de gestão de recursos hídricos do país apresenta uma grande oportunidade para sua implementação por meio do engajamento de comitês de bacias hidrográficas durante a construção de Planos de Recursos Hídricos. Este estudo propôs uma adaptação da estrutura dos Limites Ecológicos de Alteração Hidrológica (ELOHA) ao contexto de comitês de bacias hidrográficas brasileiras. A adaptação inclui a adição das etapas: envolver/consultar o comitê da bacia hidrográfica por meio de oficinas, questionários e mapeamento participativo; classificação das alterações hidrológicas; proposta de inclusão de uma base ecológica; e propor vazões ambientais com base nas diferentes legislações estaduais e no método de Tennant modificado. As oficinas, questionários e mapeamento participativo foram capazes de facilitar a participação dos membros do comitê de bacias a comunicarem suas necessidades. A bacia não possui alteração hidrológica significativa em seus rios, quando classificados os rios estão em uma condição não impactada e ou de baixo impacto. A hipótese ecologia-alteração hidrológica apontou uma ligação entre as alterações hidrológicas e a riqueza de espécies de peixes. Esses links precisam ser mais investigados. As categorias Excepcional e Excelente do método Tennant forneceram maior proteção do rio em comparação com os métodos brasileiros. DEVELOPMENT OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL FLOW APPROACH APPLIED TO THE PIABANHA RIVER Camilla Hellen Peixoto de Lima June/2019 Advisors: Renato Nascimento Elias Stuart Edward Bunn Francisco Olivera Department: Civil Engineering Although in Brazil the science of environmental flows is still little explored, the structure of water resources management of the country presents a great opportunity for its implementation through the engagement of watershed committees during the construction of Water Resources Plans. This study proposed an adaptation of the Ecological Limits of Hydrologic Alteration (ELOHA) framework to the context of Brazilian watershed committees. The adaptation includes the addition of new steps: engage/consult the watershed committee through workshops, surveys, and participatory mapping; classification of the hydrological alterations; proposal of the inclusion of an ecological foundation; and propose different e-flows recommendations based on the different state legislations and the Tennant method. The workshops, surveys, and participatory mapping were able to facilitate the watershed members to participate and communicate their needs. The basin does not have significant hydrological alteration on its rivers when classified the rivers fall in the category of un-impacted and low impact condition. The flow ecology hypothesis pointed out a link between the hydrological alterations and the fish species richness. These links need to be further investigated. Outstanding and Excellent categories from Tennant method presented the highest values for instream flow protection compared with the current Brazilian methods. Because this structure is present only in adult males, it is hypothesized that these cells secrete a reproduction-related pheromone. The hypothesis that the caudal organ releases chemicals that attract females is tested in Mimagoniates inequalis. In a Y-maze and an aquarium, females were attracted to a caudal organ extract and to water that was conditioned with caudal organ-bearing males, respectively, but not to caudal-fin lobe extract or water conditioned with males from which the caudal organs were removed (control stimuli). In tests with male-female pairs, there were no differences in the responses to caudal organ extract and male caudal organ-conditioned water, but the responses to both stimuli differed in relation to the controls. Male-female pairs engaged in fewer courtship events and more agonistic interactions than they did without chemical stimuli and with control stimuli. These results provide evidence for a possible pheromonal system in M. inequalis. The caudal organ is a specialized secretory structure that produces a chemical signal that attracts females and increases the aggressiveness of males. G. de Brito and Érica P. Caramaschi We report here on an albino specimen of Schizolecis guntheri caught in the rio Bonito in the rio Macaé basin, Rio de Janeiro State, southeastern Brazil. The hypothesis that albinism is more common in fishes with cryptobiotic and/or nocturnal habits is strengthened by additional records of this chromatic anomaly. Relatamos aqui o albinismo em um espécime de Schizolecis guntheri capturado no rio Bonito na bacia do rio Macaé, estado do Rio de Janeiro. A hipótese do albinismo ser mais comum em peixes com hábitos criptobióticos e/ou noturnos é fortalecida por registros adicionais desta anomalia cromática. Calegari and Roberto E. Reis Microlepidogaster longicolla, new species, is described from the rio São João of the upper rio Paraná basin near Brasília, in central Brazil. The new species differs from M. perforatus, the only other species in this genus, by having a continuous lateral line, median lateral plate series reaching, rather than falling short of, the end of the caudal peduncle, a shorter pectoral-fin spine (13.4-16.2 vs. 18.2-21.0% standard length), a smaller interorbital distance (38.9-43.1 vs. 47.7-53.3% head length), and more numerous dentary teeth (16-29 vs. 12-15), in addition to several osteological features. Microlepidogaster longicolla shows a remarkable suite of secondary sexually dimorphic characters, involving the presence of a conical urogenital papilla in males, the presence of a fleshy flap along the dorsal margin of first thickened pelvic-fin ray of males, longer pelvic fin in males, and a more strongly arched first pelvic-fin ray in females. It can be distinguished from other neoplecostomine genera by the presence of (1) three hypertrophied bicuspid odontodes on the lateral portion of the body (character apparently present in mature males); (2) a large area without odontodes around the snout; (3) a post-dorsal ridge on the cau- dal peduncle; (4) a straight tooth series in the dentary and premaxillary rows; (5) the absence of abdominal plates; (6) a conspicuous series of enlarged papillae just posterior to the dentary teeth; and (7) caudal pe- duncle ellipsoid in cross section.
