Balloons and streaming ribbons greeted the invited guests who munched on items from a generously supplied buffet line. Gabriel, who has worked for the City of Toledo for many years in a variety of functions, has been head of the local NAACP office, serves as chairman of the board for EOPA and is on the board of the J. Frank Troy Senior Center, clearly has friends, colleagues and acquaintances in virtually every corner of the city. Among those helping Gabriel celebrate was one Carty Finkbeiner, mayor of the City of Toledo, and Theresa Gabriel and her boss celebrate her birthday most of the mayor’s staff from the 22nd Floor of One Government Center. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity MAYOR TO INTRODUCE IMPROVEMENTS Holds Annual Founders Day TO DORR STREET CORRIDOR FA ADE GRANT PROGRAM Toledo, Ohio - Mayor Carty Finkbeiner will propose a funding source for the recently passed Dorr Street Corridor Fa ade Grant Program. Mayor Finkbeiner proposes funding the Dorr Street Corridor program through the Community Development Block Grant fund. The Dorr Street Corridor is eligible for this program. By using CDBG funding, the City will be able to allocate $100,000 to the program instead of the $55,000 originally called for in the City Council legislation. All fa ade improvements will require a matching private sector investment. “Public funding of private business improvements must be done in partnership with business,” said Mayor Finkbeiner. “The City can not be expected to fund the entire cost of each improvement.” “The City of Toledo is fully supportive of the Dorr Street revitalization project,” Members of Alpha Phi Alpha pose for a picture at their Mayor Finkbeiner added. “And by adding $45,000 to the pot, as well as expecting the annual Founders’ Day program on Dec. 8, 2007 private sector to partner with us, the project should have long term success.” The proposed changes will be delivered to City Council at Tuesday’s agenda meeting.
