Around Turkey every year, more than 1000 festivals take place throughout the country, inviting visitors to join the locals in the spirit of joy, culture and celebration. Paper Magazine previews some of the interesting festivals of Turkey. Kadirga Festival Often regarded as the most famous festival in Turkey, this event showcases some of the most interesting aspects of Turkish culture. The festival takes place in one of the yayla (plateaus) about 25km from Tonya. The magnificent treeless mountaintop where the festival takes place is located at the juncture of the territories of Beşikdüzü, Tonya, Maçka, Torul, Eynesil and Görele. People from the four districts gather on the mountaintop during the third week of July for three days of revelry. The original purpose of the Kadirga Festival was to celebrate the migration of flocks to higher grasslands, but the festival has evolved into an event where people get together and wear folk costumes, sing, dance and have a great time. International Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival This is one of the most amazing festivals in Turkey. Held annually, in the almost 2,000-year- old Roman Aspendos Theater outside of Antalya, this event attracts not just locals, but also visitors from all over the world. Taking place in one of the most well-preserved ancient theatres in the world, the Aspendos Festival is an amazing conjunction of past and present with a stage that has featured some of the most renowned international opera and ballet companies from several countries. In 2003, Aspendos Festival was accepted to the European Festivals Association (EFA), cementing its place as one of the most respectable open air festivals of classical music. The list of standout performances includes Aida by the Ankara State Opera and Ballet, the Magic Flute by the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Zurich Ballet. Camel Wrestling Festival Every year in January, the traditional Camel Wrestling Festival takes place in Selcuk district of Izmir province, Aegean region of Turkey. This tradition is over 2400 years old and every year, more tourists are joining in the show as they get to learn about this unique tradition. Throughout the event, bets are placed on camels who will wrestle each other to the ground with their long necks. Traditionally done during mating season, a female is often paraded in front of the male participants to ensure they wrestle with determination. During the match, if a camel runs away or is wrestled to the ground, it loses. The main region that the tournament starts in is Selcuk and throughout the season, matches are held in different regions of the Aydin province, ending in a final match at the end of March. Visitors can also look forward to be entertained by village bands and food stalls. Kırkpınar Traditional Turkish Oil Wrestling Festival The Kırkpınar oil wrestling festival takes place in Edirne, Turkey. Thousands of people from different age groups, cultures and regions travel every year to see Pehlivan (wrestlers) fight for the Kırkpınar Golden Belt and the title of Chief Pehlivan. Each festival is launched by its patron, the Kırkpınar Aga, in a ceremony featuring 40 bands of davul drums and zurna shawms. As the wrestling takes place, the drum and shawm bands play the traditional repertoire of the festival. Kırkpınar oil wrestling is open to men from all cultures, regions and ages. his historical festival is one of the oldest festivals in the world still being held for over 650 years. This festival is so unique that it has been added to the UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. International Istanbul Film Festival First held in 1982, this film festival soon transformed into one of Istanbul’s longest running festivals. With both special programs featuring world classics, silent films accompanied by live music, animated films and documentaries, there are countless films featured in the programs annually, making it the most comprehensive film festival in Turkey. The festival was so crucial to helping to promote Turkish films to an international audience that the FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Associations) recognized the event as a “special subject, competitive festival”. Movie stars, celebrities and film producers throng this event every April. Expect a film fest on a scale never seen before! PAPER 06 cover story The Istanbul Jazz Festival Held in July every year since 1994, the event takes place in different concert venues across the capital city with diverse programmes including classic and modern jazz, other distinct jazz styles and even electronic fusion. This diverse range is hardly surprising since the festival celebrates other genres of music such as pop, blues, reggae, funk and even alternative music. Performances may even take place at some of Istanbul’s renowned historical sites, or even the cities’ streets or even ferries, sending the city into a frenzy of musical celebration. Jazz fans throng the streets of Istanbul to make merry and enjoy the ultimate jazz music extravangaza. Republic Day Republic Day marks the creation of the Turkish Republic in 1923 and is one of the most important holidays in Turkey. After Turkey’s victory in the War of Independence (1919-1923), the Turkish parliament proclaimed the new Turkish state as a republic. A new constitution, which the parliament adopted on 29 October 1923, replaced the constitution of the Ottoman Empire. The leader in the Turkish War of Independence, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, became the country’s first president on the same day. Many people in Turkey celebrate Republic Day on October 29 by attending performances and participating in traditional processions with flags and musical bands. Many people go to local stadiums on 29 October to watch performances dedicated to Republic Day in Turkey. Such performances usually consist of theatre sketches, poetry readings and traditional Turkish dances. Many school children participate in school performances for parents and teachers. Mevlana Whirling Dervishes Festival The Whirling Dervishes Festival is an important religious and cultural event that is held in Konya each year. The exact date of the celebration is based on the Islamic religious calendar, and as such, varies from year to year. However, the event is almost always held in November or December. The entire festival is dedicated to Rumi, as the religious figure is normally called, a man that preached love, tolerance and forgiveness. Rumi also taught his followers that it is possible to forge a connection with God by dancing through the streets in joy, which is why his followers whirl around the city in an amazing dance during this festival. For non-Muslim tourists, the Whirling Dervishes Festival is still an event worth attending. The joyful way in which the religious pilgrims dance and celebrate their love for Rumi is truly magical and a sight to behold! Abstract. Comprehensive considering the industrial production process and energy consumption, industrial carbon emissions of Changsha City were accounted for 2004 and 2013 and analyzed. The results show that: total industrial carbon emissions and average carbon emission per land area show a growth trend; carbon emission intensity showed a decreasing trend. The heavy industry accounted for the largest proportion of 54.33% in the carbon emissions structure, the spatial distribution showed characteristics that city central area is low and the edge area is high. Introduction Changsha city is the capital of Hunan Province, is located in the North of centre Hunan and includes three counties and six districts. Methods: A population-based retrospective study was conducted in 239 schools in 6 districts of Changsha. After routine eye examination to rule out diseases that can affect refraction, 250,980 eligible students from primary, middle and high schools were enrolled in the survey. Then the uncorrected distant and near visual acuity of each eye were measured. Categories of schools, districts, grades, eye exercises and sports time were also documented and analyzed. Results: The overall prevalence of reduced UCDVA was 51.8% (95% condence interval [CI]: 51.6%-52.0%) in 6 districts of Changsha.

Evaluating the supply of bus service requires the consideration of demand from various urban activities, such as residential and job-related activities. Although various evaluation methods have been explored from different perspectives, it remains a challenging issue. This study proposes a spatial statistical approach by comparing the density of the potential demand and supply of bus services at bus stops. The potential demand takes jobs-housing locations into account, and the supply of bus services considers bus stops and their associated total number of daily bus arrivals. The kernel density estimation (KDE) and spatial autocorrelation analyses are employed to investigate the coupling relationship between the demand and supply densities at global and local scales. A coupling degree index (CDI) is constructed to standardize the measurement of demand-supply balance. A case study in Wuhan, China demonstrated that: (1) the spatial distribution of bus stops is reasonable Citation: Li, B.; Huang, Z.; Xia, J.; Li, W.; Zhang, Y.
