Along with every article on upcoming concerts, you’ll notice a graphic of one of our listener profi les below. We’ve identifi ed seven different musical stereotypes in order to give readers a better idea of shows that might interest them in a quick, easy and entertaining way. Whatever graphic is found in the yellow circle accompanying an article is the type of listener who, we feel, might enjoy that particular performance. Keep in mind that this isn’t an all-inclusive solution but, rather, a fun and games approach to categorize the many live shows that come through the Spokane area on a weekly basis. Also note that the gender designations are completely arbitrary – come to think of it, so is this whole method of profi ling – so use it only as a loose guide. We suspect that many of our readers will fall into more than one category, and that’s OK. We’re not pigeonholing you into a particular musical taste, we’re merely providing a guide to point you in the direction of whatever show you might feel like going to on a given night. I am immensely grateful to you. I am also thankful to the other wonderful people I have met at the American Studies Department from Dortmund. First and foremost, thank you Prof. Dr. Randi Gunzenhäuser for having read my dissertation. I really appreciate your humor and witty comments. Thank you: Sina, Elena, Mario, Johanna, Julia, Eriko and Martina for your friendship and support. Looking back, I realize I have had such an enriching experience and I can only hope we will keep in touch. All my love goes to my closest friends back home who have stood by me all along. Thanks, in particular, to Remus, the one with whom I have embarked on this unexpected adventure. This five-year long journey has taken us to different places, but what an amazing experience it has been! Most of all, thanks to my family who has always believed in me.

  • 1. Letter to Bal Kalelkar
    1. LETTER TO BAL KALELKAR ARNI, September 2, 1927 CHI. BAL, I got your letter and liked it very much. I could not reply immediately for want of time. I shall answer two of your questions. A brahmachari sacrifices all pleasures merely through faith or in obedience to his parents or a custom. There is obedience in his sacrifice, but not knowledge. And if he cannot bring himself to make for ever that sacrifice, he has freedom to enjoy pleasures within limits after completing his studies. A sannyasi makes the same sacrifice knowingly and willingly. He does not and cannot keep it open for him to return to pleasures after having abjured them. Both types of sacrifice are very essential to individuals as well as to society. Now the second question. Non-violence means not harming anyone in thought, word or action out of ill will or selfishness. If we wish or do ill to any stranger in the interests of our parents, that is violence. We can see and prove with the help of our know ledge that wishing or doing ill benefits neither the world nor our parents. Hence I had written that it was my belief we dis cover nonviolence the moment we realize that its root is to be found in wishing well to the world as much as to ourselves. You will thus see that we can of course prove independently that one should wish well to the world, but if we abide by the dharma of non-violence the responsibility to wish well to the world as well devolves on us even in pursuance of that dharma.

4/1/2021 Coronavirus Journal. A Journal of the Plague Year. A Journal of the Plague Year, being random jottings of personal experiences during the coronavirus pande March 22, 2020 It was about the beginning of September, 1664... Excuse me. I shouldn't ape, or plagiarize (plague your eyes?), the m was actually yesterday, March 21, 2020 (gotta love the number of the year) that I picked up the new lawn mower at Depot, and many of the people there seemed curiously frenzied; I can't quite characterize their behavior, but they ha uneasy quality. Many of them moved faster than they usually do. Later, I walked down to my local shopping center and saw that the parking lots were almost entirely empty. That wa Saturday. Except on Christmas or whatever, they're always almost full. Women walking their dogs were giving me a berth (more than the recommended six feet), pulling the dogs so as not to be within spraying distance if I sneezed or coughed. I walked for about an hour. On the way home, I stopped at Rimann's Liquor and said, "I'd like to support th breweries, but I don't want to buy a six-pack". One of the employees led me to a shelf and showed me the local brew could buy as singles. The cans were lined up, and he touched the top of every can in the front row with his fingers. H clearly was not thinking about the virus. I waited until he left, and took a can from the second row, went to the regis put it on the counter.
