Gospel John 5:24-27 The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. Glory be to thee, O Lord. “Very truly, I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come under judgment, but has passed from death to life. Very truly, I tell you, the hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For just as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself; and he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to thee, O Christ. Sermon

From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy , the communion of , the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. 6 pm Requiem for all souls, Sunday, October 27, 2019 z 9 About Duruflé’s Requiem Written in memory of his father and premiered on November 2, 1947, Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem stands undisputed as one of the choral masterpieces of the 20th century. The French composer and organist was notoriously self-critical and spent much of his life reworking his relatively small, yet highly finessed compositional output. His Requiem, based entirely on the Gregorian chants for the Mass for the Dead, was one of 81 works commissioned by the Vichy regime as an effort to relieve severe unemployment during World War II. The work exists in three versions by the composer: one for large orchestra, one for organ and orchestra, and the version heard tonight for solo organ featuring Trinity’s recently restored organ. The Prelude and Fugue sur le nom d’Alain was written in memory of his friend, organist and composer Jehan Alain (1911-1940) who was killed in the war. Following Maurice Duruflé’s death in 1986, Mme. Duruflé told a student, “Oh no, don’t be sad. We have played the prelude to a friendship; we have all of life for the fugue.”
