IVAN LE LORRAINE ALBRIGHT 1897- That \vhich I Should Have Done I Dl.d Not Do, between 1931 and 1941 The Albright was born in Chicago. He had training at Northwestern University and the School of the Art Institute.

KARL ANDERSON 1874-1956 The Coral Necklace, 1918 Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Dewey, Jr. Anderson was a student of John Vanderpoel at the School of the Art Institute.

ANTHONY ANGAROLA 1893-1929 The Main Travel Road, Cagnes, France, 1929 Gift of Yvonne and Richard Angarola

Angarola was born and died in Chicago. He was among the first Chicagoans to adopt stylized elements from Cubism. 2 BORIS ANISFELD 1879-

The Royal Palace~ 1921 Friends of American Art Collection Ansfeld taught for more than thirty years at the School of the Art Institute.

Blue Rafters~ c. 1919 Friends of American Art Collection Bartlett was born in Chicago. In 1926 he gave to the Art Institute in memory of his wife The Helen Birch Bartlett Memorial Collection of Post-Impressionist .

RAINEY BENNETT 190'""(- Quiet Blue Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Oppenheimer Purchase Prize Bennett has lived in Chicago for many years.

EDGAR SPIER CAMERON 1862-194L~ Cabaret Breton, 1916 Friends of American Art Collection Cameron studied in Chicago. He won his first recognition in Chicago with his murals at the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893.

FRANCIS CHAPIN 1899-1965 The Pink House, c. 1933 Mr. and Mrs. Frank G. Logan Purchase Prize Chapin had a great influence in the Chicago area as a teacher.

ALSON SKINNER CLARK 1876-1949 Coffee House, c. 1905-1906 Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Alson S. Clark Clark was born in Chicago.

ELEANOR COEN 1916- Growing City, 1956 Mr. and Mrs. Frank G. Logan Purchase Prize Eleanor Coen was born in Normal, Illinois, and studied at the School of the Art Institute. 4

FREDERICK CARL FRIESEKE 1874-1939 On The Bank, c. 1915 Friends of American Art Collection Frieseke studied at the School of the Art Institute.

TODROS GELLER 1889-1949 Strange Worlds, 1928 Gift of Leon Garland Foundation Geller came to Chicago in 1918, where he attended classes at the Art Institute until 1923. He died in Chicago. 5

ROBERT B. HARSHE 1879-1938 English Harbor, The Pier At Brighton, c. 1930 Friends of American Art Collection Harshe was Director of The Art Institute of Chicago from 1921 until his death.

GEORGE PETER ALEXANDER HEALY 1813-1894 Armenian Fathers, 1870 Gift of G. P. A. Healy Healy died in Chicago. This was the first acquired by The Art Institute of Chicago.

MARGO HOFF 1912- Murder Mystery, 1946 Walter M. Campana Memorial Prize Margo Hoff has lived in Chicago for many years.

TORVALT ARNT HOYER 1872-1949 Wheat Field, 1940 Gift of Olga Pegelow Hoyer came to Chicago from Denmark.

MICHAEL HURSON 1941- Ballet of the Left-Handed Piano, 1962 Joseph N. Eisendrath Purchase Prize Hurson studied at the School of the Art Institute. 6

RUDOLPH F. INGERLE 1879-1950 Swappin' Grounds, 1928 Friends of American Art Collection Ingerle spent most of his life in Chicago.

JOHN CHRISTIAN JOHANSEN 1876-early 1960's Piazza San Marco, Venice, 1908 Friends of American Art Collection Johansen came to America and finally settled in Chicago.

~vhile Knaths was studying at The Art Institute of Chicago, he was greatly affected by the Armory Show, a part of which was exhibited here in 1913.

CARL R. KRAFFI' 1884-1938 Mississippi River, 1924 Mr. and Mrs. Martin A. Eyerson Collection Krafft died in Oak Park, Illinois. 7

JOAN MITCHELL 1926- City Landscape, 1955 Gift of the Society for Contemporary Art Joan Mitchell was born in Chicago. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago.

LASZLO MOHOLY-NAGY 1895-1946 Nuclear I, CH, 1946 Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Leigh B. Block Moholy-Nagy came to Chicago in 1937.

JOHN WARNER NORTON 1876-1934 Mountain Landscape, c. 1921 Bequest of Paul Wendland Norton began his studies at the School of the Art Institute in 1899.
