Vogelwarte 49: 1-8. The breeding population of meadow-breeding waders in the Dellstedt bog area in the west of Schleswig-Holstein (54° 15’ N, 09° 21’ E, Fig. 1) was investigated from 1969 to 2005. The breeding populations of four species (Eurasian Lapwing Vanellus vanellus, Common Snipe Gallinago gallinago, Black-tailed Godwit Limosa limosa and Eurasian Curlew Numenius arquata) declined drastically; two species (Eurasian Oystercatcher Haematopus ostralegus and Redshank Tringa totanus) have almost disappeared from the area (Tab.1). Three pairs of the Eurasian Curlew were recorded in 1968, 22 in 2001 and 6 in 2005 (Fig.2). In 2003, 2004 and 2005 4, 4 and 3-4 territories were found on restored bogs and 6, 3 and 2 pairs on farmed grassland, respec- tively. In 2003 one pair each bred successfully in these habitats. The drastic decline by 73% in four years can be interpreted as follows: Site fidelity and possibly their high age enabled the birds to maintain a comparatively large population. Later, the combination of age related high mortality and poor breeding success of old Curlews accelerated the decline.     The magnificent Reeves's Pheasant was one of the many specialties seen on this tour (Brendan Ryan). EASTERN CHINA 3 – 27 MAY 2017 LEADER: HANNU JÄNNES Birdquest’s Eastern China tour, an epic 25 day journey across much of eastern China, focusses on an array of rare Chinese endemics and migrants, and this year’s tour once again proved a great success. The focus of the first part of the tour is to achieve good views of rarities like Spoon-billed Sandpiper, the critically endangered Blue-crowned (Courtois’s) Laughingthrush, the superb Cabot’s Tragopan and Elliot’s Pheasant and the ultra-rare Chinese Crested Tern. This was successfully achieved alongside a plethora of other much sought after species including White-faced Plover, Great Knot, stunning Saunders’s Gulls, Reed Parrotbill, eastern migrants, including Pechora Pipit, Japanese Robin, Japanese Paradise, Yellow-rumped, Narcissus and Mugimaki Flycatchers, and forest species like Brown-chested Jungle Flycatcher, White-necklaced Partridge, Silver Pheasant, Buffy and Moustached Laughingthrushes, Short-tailed Parrotbill, Fork-tailed Sunbird and the delightful Pied Falconet. The second part of the tour, the ‘Northeast Extension’, visited a series of sites for various other Chinese specialities. Beginning in Wuhan, we bagged the amazing Reeves’s Pheasant and Crested Ibis, as well as stunners that included Fairy Pitta and Chestnut-winged Cuckoo. We then moved on to Jiaocheng for the fabulous Brown Eared Pheasants before flying on to Beijing, where the mountains of the nearby Hebei province yielded the endemic Chinese Beautiful Rosefinch, Chinese Nuthatch, Green-backed and Zappey’s Flycatchers and the rare Grey-sided Thrush.

Burung ini diduga bermigrasi bersama Jalak Cina dan Jalak Filipina. Meskipun tidak dapat dipastikan, adanya penjualan Jalak mawar di Yogyakarta mengindikasikan adanya kemungkinan individu tersebut adalah burung lepasan. Namun demikian, perjumpaan ini menjadi catatan pertama bagi jenis ini di Indonesia. Introduction The Rosy Starling Pastor roseus is a migratory species which breeds mainly in Western and Central Asia from South Ukraine, east to East Kazakhstan and West Mongolia, and south to Afghanistan and West and North Xinjiang in Northwest China (Craig & Feare 2009). It winters mainly in India and Sri Lanka, but small numbers regularly reach Southeast Asia (Wells 2007). First recorded in southwest Thailand in late March 1986 (Clark 1995), up to eight birds were seen in southern Thailand and northwest Peninsular Malaysia during the months from October to February over three seasons between 2002 to 2005 (Wells 2007).

However, previous studies have not discriminated this process from vicariant speciation in migratory bird species. We conducted an integrative phylogeographic approach to test the LDD hypothesis, which predicts that a Japanese migratory bird subspecies diverged from a population in the coastal region of the East China Sea (CRECS) via LDD over the East China Sea (ECS). Location: East Asia Taxon: Brown Shrike (Lanius cristatus) Methods: Both a haplotype network and a multi-locus gene network of its three subspecies were reconstructed to examine from which continental population the Japanese subspecies diverged. A species distribution model (SDM) for the Japanese subspecies was constructed using bioclimatic variables under the maximum entropy algorithm. It was projected to the climate of the last glacial maximum (LGM) to infer the candidate source area of colonisation. A migratory route of the Japanese subspecies, which possibly reflects a candidate past colonisation route, was tracked by light-level geolocators. Results: Molecular phylogenetic networks suggest that the Japanese subspecies diverged from a population in the CRECS. The SDM inferred that the emerged continental shelf of the ECS and the present CRECS were suitable breeding areas for the Japanese subspecies during the LGM.
