Battle and Self-Sacrifice in a Bengali Warrior’s Epic: Lausen’s Quest to be a Raja in Dharma Ma2gal* INTRODUCTION Plots and Themes harma Ma2gal are long, narrative Bengali poems that explain and justify the worship of Lord Dharma as the D eternal, formless, and supreme god. Surviving texts were written between the mid-seventeenth and the mid-eighteenth centuries. By examining the plots of Dharma Ma2gal, I hope to describe features of a precolonial Bengali warriors” culture. I argue that Dharma Ma2gal texts describe the career of a hero and raja, and that their narratives seem to be designed both to inculcate a version of warrior culture in Bengal, and to contain it by requiring self-sacrifice in both battle and “truth ordeals.” Dharma Ma2gal *I thank Ralph W. -

Oromia is the largest National Regional State of Ethiopia. Here we present the first comprehensive checklist of its birds. A total of 804 bird species has been recorded, 601 of them confirmed (443) or assumed (158) to be breeding birds. At least 561 are all-year residents (and 31 more potentially so), at least 73 are Afrotropical migrants and visitors (and 44 more potentially so), and 184 are Palaearctic migrants and visitors (and eight more potentially so). Three species are endemic to Oromia, 18 to Ethiopia and 43 to the Horn of Africa. 170 Oromia bird species are biome restricted: 57 to the Afrotropical Highlands biome, 95 to the Somali-Masai biome, and 18 to the Sudan-Guinea Savanna biome. -

Two species in this group—the European starling Sturnus vulgaris and the common Myna Acridotheres tristis—now occur on continents and islands around the world following human-mediated introductions, and the entire clade is generally notable for being highly social and dispersive, as most of its species breed colonially or move in large flocks as they track ephemeral insect or plant resources, and for associating with humans in urban or agricultural land- scapes. Our reconstructions were based on substantial mtDNA (4 kb) and nuclear intron (4 loci, 3 kb total) sequences from 16 species, augmented by mtDNA NDII gene sequences (1 kb) for the remaining 10 taxa for which DNAs were available only from museum skin samples. -

ABSTRACT The regional floristic studies are very important and it can be achieved by exploration of smaller areas. This is useful in the revision of existing flora. The present work based upon the exploration and survey of members of family Asteraceae in Daund Tahsil from Pune district. Daund Tahsil lies in o o Pune district of Maharashtra state, India.. This region extent from 18P P 18’ to 18 P P 41’ North Latitude o o and 74 P P 07’ to 74 P P 51’ East Longitude, covering an area of 1289.86 Sq. Km. (128986 ha.) according to 2011 census. The average height of the study area is 554 meters from mean sea level. This region experience semi-arid climate. Frequent study tours were conducted within the study area during the year 2012-2015 for the collection and documentation of members of family Asteraceae. Plant exploration was conducted to determine plant species of family Asteraceae . The present paper deals with the 43 species belonging to 35 genera of family Asteraceae recorded from Daund Tahsil. -

Abstract: Riparian flora is an expressed survey to analyze marginal vegetation of river zones. The present study was conducted in Thamiraparani river of Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, India. Result of the current study showed a total of, 720 species of angiosperms belonging to 449 genera under 126 families of these 76.5% were dicots and 23.5% of monocots were recorded.Habitually 30.4% herbs , 26.7% trees, 15.7% shrubs, 6.9% climbing shrubs, 5.2% perennial herbs, 3.3% annual herbs, 2 % twining herbs, 1.7% twining shrubs, 1.6% aquatic herbs, 1.3% climbing herbs, 0.6% rhizomatous herbs, 0.7% marshy herbs, 0.7% tunerous herbs, 0.6% lianas, 0.4% tuberous climbing herbs, 0.4% stragglinbg shrubs, 0.3% climbers, 0.3% climbing palms, 0.3% prostrate herbs, climbing shrub, creeping herb, epiphytic herb, parasitic shrub and parasitic twining herb were 0.1% .
