  • A New School Year
Fall, 2020 Letter to the Community The Blair-Taylor family has always been there to support our students’ and staff’s needs, and this year is no exception. Our Blair-Taylor staff thank you for the overwhelming support to help us to create a safe and healthy learning environment for everyone, and in turn, helping us get back in school. As you know, we are in this together. Physical distancing, masks, washing our hands, and using hand sanitizer have become a part of our daily lives. Please continue to help us to reduce the spread of COVID-19, so that we can stay in school and continue to give our students as many positive extra-curricular and co-curricular opportunities as possible. Referendum Our school board takes our mission statement seriously: “To educate all learners to reach their potential as productive citizens.” In addition, our school board understands we are here to serve our Blair-Taylor community. During Fax: 608-989-2451 the 2019-2020 school year, the school board directed the administration to critically look at community needs and educational needs and opportunities. After months of discussion, listening to experts, and reviewing data, the school board approved a referendum question for the November 3, 2020, ballot. We have an incredible opportunity to enhance services and educational opportunities at our United Campus. The question on the ballot is, "Shall the School District of Blair-Taylor, Trempealeau and Jackson Counties, Wisconsin be authorized to issue pursuant to Chapter 67 of the Wisconsin Statutes, general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $4,145,000 for the public purpose of paying the cost of a school building and improvement project at the united campus consisting of: construction of additions for a district daycare center and classrooms; renovations, capital maintenance, building infrastructure, safety and site improvements; construction of a baseball field; and acquisition of furnishings, fixtures and equipment?" Included in this newsletter are the fact sheets our referendum committee created.

  • From the Desk of Superintendent Jenny
FROM THE DESK OF SUPERINTENDENT JENNY STARCK November, 2020 This has been a year of planning and adjusting plans. The community and parents spoke clearly that face to face instruction for all students was the preferred delivery meth- od. Although we have had to take a two-week switch to virtual instruction, we will still work within the goal of face to face with students as much as possible. We have increased cleaning protocols especially in bathrooms and areas of higher traffic. The elementary school is able to keep students in grade level class cohorts which helps as there are posi- tive cases identified. We have developed a weekly dashboard on the COVID - 19 banner of the website where we update the numbers of students and staff in quarantine or test- ing positive. Along with your presence during after-school events, parent-teacher conferences, and holiday celebrations…your work at home reading with, playing with , and talking with your children is irreplaceable. Thank you for the important work you do! Recent Highlights: • Thank you for attending Parent/Teacher Conferences and to our many families who completed our “Perseverance & Self-Regulation.” We will use these results along with data from our staff and student surveys to measure our strengths and direct our focus. Along with school goals specific to math, reading, and writing, we are also responsible for meeting the needs of the whole child and their social/emotional skills. Your perspective is an important part of gauging our success. • What an exciting way to mark the end of October! Thank you for doing your part to ensure a fun and safe Halloween celebration for our kids. An extra special thanks to our Halloween helpers for your assistance. • On November 1st, we acknowledged our efforts made in building self-control and mindfulness during an all-school assembly and will celebrate our gains as a school with Turkey Bingo just before Thanksgiving break.
