‘San Fhuil / It's In The Blood Sunday 23 June BBC ALBA, 9.00-10.00pm

A repeat of the popular series first aired in 2018. This documentary series is about a rare species of human: the Uist crofter. Made from rock as old as the moon, Uist has been shaped by winds, tides and the people who have continuously worked this landscape for 5,000 years. The traditional crofting methods enable rare species of birds and flowers to thrive that are extinct elsewhere in the British Isles. Conflicts arise from the dramatic weather system and the front-line cycles of life and death. And from the flocking geese. Over the last 30 years, the resident population of Greylags has increased from less than 1,000 to over 9,000 birds. With little to check the breeding Greylag, the geese are destroying the cultivation of Uist corn. How the crofters meet these and other challenges with wits, humour and determination is a core driver of the action. Always there is the need to sow the seed and cultivate the corn to feed the cattle. And to shepherd the sheep on the hills.

This week in Shieldinch…Alex’s world is shattered and revenge against Lenny looms large; Angus urges Kim to seek help as her memory causes concern; and, oblivious to her fiancés infidelity, Scarlett seeks a best man for Dougie. Alex’s search for the truth about Annie and his son lead him to criminal Sneddon. Demanding answers, Alex’s stunned to discover the picture of Annie and his son was fake – there is no baby. Distraught, Alex hunts down Lenny, hell-bent on revenge. At Amber Cabs, Alex holds Lenny at gunpoint while Stevie urges Poppy to make him see sense – before it’s too late. As tensions rise between father and son, their makeshift truce is off and uncomfortable truths are served up, pushing one of them to an emotional edge and uncertain future. Elsewhere, Kim’s memory continues to cause concern but she hides the symptoms from Bob. Angus tries to convince her to seek help and get tested for early onset dementia. At the health centre, Kim reluctantly confesses all to Eve who reassures her but is concerned enough to instruct further tests. With their wedding on the horizon, Scarlett realises Dougie doesn’t have a best man. She starts auditioning Shieldinch men for the role little realising her groom-to-be, Dougie, is cheating on her with Suzie.

Children of the Devolution, Ep 1/2  NEW Tuesday 25 June BBC Scotland, 10.00 – 11.00pm On the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Scottish Parliament, journalist and broadcaster Allan Little embarks on a journey across Scotland meeting people from different generations to find out how devolution has shaped their lives. He hears from the men and women in their sixties who remember Scotland’s first devolution referendum in 1979, the 40-somethings who came of age during the 1997 debate, and the 20-year olds who have never known a Scotland without a Parliament. Through their stories, Allan explores the political battles that have been fought in Holyrood over issues such as land reform and the controversial repeal of Section 28. In this first episode he also reflects on some of the early troubles that the parliament faced, from the scandal over the Holyrood building project to the death of the First Minister, Donald Dewar. As he makes his journey across the country - which includes a visit back to his old school in Stranraer to hear from current pupils, teachers and parents - Allan also gets the inside story on the Parliament’s first two decades from political figures including former and serving MSPs as well as from journalists and campaigners.

Flour Power, Ep 4/10 Wednesday 26 June BBC Scotland, 8.00-8.30pm

In this episode Flour Power is on the beautiful Hebridean island of Islay. World famous, of course, for it’s whisky, so no surprise then that today’s episode features the workforce of one of its most recognisable distilleries, Bruichladdich. Cask master Jay, housekeeper Katie and tour guide Dave are joined by client manager Mary as these four colleagues go to war over the coveted Flour Power trophy. Local head chef Stephen Crichton joins series judge Nicola Reith to decide on the winner, and there’s plenty of fighting ‘spirit’ needed from these four whisky wizards as they create their signature bakes. Favourite Katie is making a scrumptious layered sponge whilst Mary stays traditional with her scones. Jay plumps for his favourite recipe of custard tarts whilst Dave goes the extra mile with a duo of cheesecake!

An appreciation of the work of Dr John MacInnes, Gaeldom's foremost folklorist. Formerly based in the School of Scottish Studies in Edinburgh, he has collected the oral literature and tradition of Gaelic speakers throughout Scotland. In Gaelic with English subtitles.

Annie Oakley  NEW Thursday 27 June BBC ALBA, 10.30-11.25pm

This documentary chronicles Annie Oakley’s life, from her childhood in Ohio to her world tours with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show. Phoebe Anne Moses first picked up a gun in 1875 at age fifteen. She taught herself to shoot and hunted quail, which she sold to support her struggling family. Frank Butler, who was making a name for himself on the variety stage, soon noticed the shooting prodigy. They married and went on tour as Butler and Oakley, the stage name that Annie would adopt. In 1885, Oakley entertained crowds in 40 cities across America. By 1895, that number grew to more than 130 cities around the world. The girl from Ohio had become a living symbol of the Wild West, a place that was fast disappearing.

Still Game, Ep2/6 – Cat’s Whiskers Friday 28 June BBC One, 9.00-9.30pm

Competition comes calling as Jack and Victor vie to become the new cover star of Twilight Monthly; while Winston and Joe battle it out for the affections of a stray cat in this second episode of iconic comedy, Still Game. Jack is surprised by Victor’s surprising make-over. Victor claims he’s mixing it up a bit but Jack wangles the truth out of his pal - Twilight Monthly magazine is looking for a new cover star. He reveals they’re after a new person who looks a million dollars, a photogenic jet-setter who’ll sell magazines to the older market - and Victor thinks he fits the bill. At The Clansman, Victor’s dismayed to discover a few of the regulars also fancy themselves as cover stars and that this dream job isn’t going to be easy to win. Meanwhile, over at the shop, Navid notices stock is going missing and suspects schoolboy Darren is the sneaky shoplifter. However, Navid quickly realises he’ll have to use all his cunning to catch this hungry little culprit red-handed. Winston tries to capture a beast of his own after discovering a stray cat has wandered into his close. He attempts to lure the cat with a saucer of milk but his neighbour Joe also has desires to win the cat’s affections. It’s a battle to find out who’s the cat’s whiskers and who’ll be a feline flop.

Jack is played by Ford Kiernan, Victor by Greg Hemphill, Winston by Paul Riley, Joe by John Buick, Navid by Sanjeev Kohli and Darren by Ben Boulton Jones. Adventure Show Live  NEW Friday 28 June BBC Scotland, 7.00 – 9.00pm

In the first of four live programmes, the Adventure Show is at Callendar Park, near Falkirk for fast and furious sprint orienteering – an exciting sport with the World Championships coming to Edinburgh in 2022. The JOK Chasing Sprint was first staged in 1995 and has an illustrious list of previous winners including several former World Champions. There’ll be live coverage of the climax of the event as the fastest runners battle it out in a supreme test of physical fitness and mental dexterity. Adventure Show Live is an Adventure Show Production for BBC Scotland.
