On behalf of John Champe High School and our community, it is my pleasure to congratulate our Wind Ensemble on their selection to be part of the Music for All National Festival! As the first school in Loudoun County Public Schools to receive this distinction, our learning community is extremely proud of our students, as well as the tireless efforts of Jonathan Phillip, the Fine Arts Department Chair and Band Director. Having opened JCHS, Mr. Phillip is a key factor to our level of success; our band program has flourished under his unparalleled leadership, work ethic, passion for music education, and his commitment to students. A talented educator, Mr. Phillip has developed our students and shaped our program into a premiere one at both the district and state level. As such, as we enter our fifth year of existence, we have received Honor Band status for three years in a row as well as having been named a Blue Ribbon School, due to the overall Friday – Schrott Center – Schrott Friday success of the Fine Arts Department. Participating at the Music for All National Festival is a natural culmination of our students’ and teachers’ hard work. I would be remiss if I also did not express our deep appreciation for our students’ parents and their strong support of our music program. We are excited for our students to be able to enjoy this prestigious opportunity, and I am equally excited for you to be able to hear and meet our gifted young musicians!
Sincerely, John G. Gabriel

On the behalf of Kiski Area High School, I would like to thank Music for All for the honor of selecting our musicians to perform for you today. It is a true honor for our students and staff to take part in this event, and I have witnessed firsthand the amount of time and effort Friday – Warrren Center Warrren – Friday they have invested to produce a quality performance. At Kiski Area, we pride ourselves on hard work, dedication, and the commitment to excellence. Our music program exemplifies all of these characteristics. In many ways, the young men and woman before you today, forge the standard for which we are all measured. Our musicians put their heart and soul into every beat that they play and every arrangement that they encounter. Today, all of the hard work and time that was invested into this performance will be obvious. However, the most impressive thing about these young men and women that are performing for you is that they realize that the journey to get to this one day was perhaps more powerful than the few moments that they will perform. They have thoroughly enjoyed the preparation and the challenge to demonstrate what “The Big K” is all about. These fine students truly value the relationships that have been developed along the way and will cherish them for a lifetime. This is one of the many reasons that our music program has had such a great impact to our school district. I want to thank all of the students, families and staff that have made this accomplishment possible. I would also like to thank Music for All for providing this wonderful opportunity to showcase our student’s talents and passion.

Friday – IHS Friday About School, Although definite records are not available prior to Franklin High School burning in the early 1950s, there are existing pictures of the Commuity, and Franklin High School Band as early as 1937. In 1948, the band was reorganized with 12 members (11 players and 1 majorette). David Program Aydelott is the 12th director of record for the band, including several distinguished directors who went on to direct in the collegiate ranks (Bill Swor – Louisiana State University and Wayne Pegram – University of Tennessee and Tennessee Tech). The Franklin Band has made appearances in the Orange Bowl Parade, Tournament of Roses Parade, twice in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, St. Louis St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Hollywood Christmas Parade, and Tangerine Bowl. The band also appeared in a Madonna music video and in the Academy Award winning movie “Nashville.” The City of Franklin was founded October 26, 1799, and was named after Benjamin Franklin, a close friend of Dr. Hugh Williamson, a member of the Continental Congress for whom Williamson County was named. For most of its first 180 years, Franklin was a tranquil, small county seat. Then, the Battle of Franklin was fought on November 30, 1864, and was one of the Civil War’s bloodiest battles, costing more than 8,000 casualties and turning every home and building in town into a hospital. It took 120 years for the county’s economy to reach pre-war levels. Today, Franklin is a unique blend of history and progress. You’ll find the best of both worlds here: small-town charm and big-city sophistication. There are fascinating Civil War sites and museums, magnificent Antebellum and Victorian homes – plus our thriving downtown shopping area and the Cool Springs Galleria, unique dining and entertainment, and wonderful festivals. Franklin has grown from a very small, agricultural community into a strong blend of residential, commercial, and corporate citizens.
