CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES

Kids’ Power Camp - 17 kids in total, 15 attended the four days, a couple of others were only able to come one day. Power Camp traveled to the zoo and Cosmosphere. The kids loved making bird houses and painting . Special thanks to Barbara Mencl who did all the snacks and attended each day. Denise and Keith did the four days along with Drew DeMeyer and Libby Jackson who helped each day as junior leaders. Drew and Libby were great with the kids, helping them and playing games with them. Very positive feedback from the camp. Little Stars - It was a positive summer with the core 5-8 moms and children attending. Little Stars traveled to the Ave. B Park, Ave. A Splash Pad, and the Hutchinson Zoo/ Picnic. 18 lunches were served to both kids and parents. We are hoping to pick back up again with school starting. We linked the FPC Facebook page to Little Stars Facebook Group Page. 3 A THOUGHT FROM KEITH

So, what is prayer like for you? Does it even happen with our busy and stressed out life? When are you and have quality time with God? I can’t speak for you, but time and time again I go into my prayer time with my own agenda. It’s like going to God and already deciding how we want Him to answer our prayers and by doing so we close ourselves off from receiving from God the very thing He wants to do or say to you in that moment. In fact, God may want to do something completely different than you could ever imagine. Perhaps we come to God and say, “Here you go God, hope you like my idea; can you please do it my way.” When we to do that, we put God in a strait jacket. We want it our way, not His way, my will, not yours God! That’s not the way it works. Darla Fisher a few weeks ago spoke in church and asked us to “Shhh” be still, breathe in and know that God is there. It’s vital that we do this because in that time of quiet we hear from God Himself. We feel the prompting of the Holy Spirit leading us in the direction God has planned. I have said this so many times before but I will say it again. We need to listen to the heartbeat of God and not always present our ideas to Him. It’s not about the fact that our agendas may be right or wrong; it’s just about wanting to time with God and feel His presence. So, for that to happen you won’t bring your agenda or any agenda with you. I remember the first time that I really felt connected to God in prayer and I was not doing most of the talking. Funny that. I was in fact setting myself apart and just waiting on Him. It felt to me in that moment that my heart was picking up the heartbeat of God as He poured out His love for me straight from His heart. I remember being overwhelmed by the realization that God’s heart was broken for me. When I felt that, when I understood that His heart was broken for me and His amazing love was there for me, my only response was to want to pray and spend more time in His presence. It stirred up for the first time a burning passion and compassion for a lost generation that has never left me but grew stronger through the years. I pray that each of us can find time to listen to the voice of God more in our busy lives. To find a place and time to know His heart, His plans, and His voice. I’m continually amazed that God would choose to have a relationship with us. But it makes all the sense in the world because all, we are His children. He is a great and powerful God who is also so loving and caring as a Father who just wants to be involved in our lives. Incredibly, He also wants us to be involved with Him and He wants us to help build His Kingdom here on earth. If you want to see a real breakthrough in your prayer life then come to Him with no agenda and you will discover His agenda for you! 4 CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES YOUTH GROUP

FPC LINCOLN WORK DAY

Once again, we had another fantastic day in the Lincoln neighborhood. Waking up to rain was not the start we wanted for that day but it quickly dried up and we had a beautiful morning to work at the school and at the house on East F Street. Around 90 people gathered at the school and after Darla welcomed everyone and set the scene and background for the day, Keith shared that this was a morning when we did “Real Church”, the way it was done in the early church in the book of Acts. We came together to bless the school, staff, kids and families in the area. Darla prayed and off we went to paint, to various classrooms with staff and outside in the school grounds to weed and tidy up. Twenty-eight people headed out to a a few blocks from the school to begin the transformation. After scraping and preparing the house this team of workers got stuck in painting and changing the whole look of the house. They did an amazing job and finished all the work in less than three hours. Back at the school, books were being labeled, pencils sharpened, displays prepared, books sorted, notes of encouragement written to all teachers and support staff. I would guess that over a week’s of work was done in those two and a half hours. Weeds were removed all around the school and playground, plastic water bottles and trash got picked up ready for the kids’ arrival that week. Darla sums it all up by saying what a blessing this day is to the school community and neighborhood. This is what church is all about, helping those around us and passing on the love of Jesus by our actions.

First Presbyterian Church, THANK YOU so much for investing in our school and community this past Sunday [August 11]. Your gifts of service were a blessing to our teachers and to a precious family in our neighborhood. Our teachers were thrilled to be given this gift of time and support. The family is feeling loved and valued. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ. You are making a difference. — The Lincoln Staff 7 CALENDAR — AUGUST 25 – SEPTEMBER 8, 2019
