Entrevista a the Magnificient Metal Symphony http://www.metalsymphony.com Entrevista a The Magnificient The Magnificent es un nuevo proyecto surgido desde el sello Frontiers Records que reúne a dos músicos cuyas propuestas musicales en sus bandas es muy distante a lo que ahora plasman en este su debut. Por un lado, Torsti Spoof de Leverage y por otro Michael Eriksen de Circus Maximus. Juntos y con la ayuda de otros músicos que hacen funciones de composición han realizado un álbum netamente de rock melódico muy al estilo de los 80.Con uno de sus componentes, Torsti Spoof hablamos de dicho proyecto, estilo musical….. Mariano Crespo - Force Magazine *En primer lugar nos gustaría saber como The Magnificent se originó y como llegó a ser una realidad. -La idea original fue de Serafino Perusino, Presidente de Frontiers Records. El pensó que Michael (Eriksen) y yo deberíamos trabajar en un proyecto en conjunto orientado al rock melódico. A partir de ese momento comenzamos a cambiar ideas y conceptos, vimos que el resultado inicial era positivo por lo que seguimos para delante con el trabajo. *La música que presenta The Magnificent es bastante distinta a la de vuestros grupos originales (Circus Maximus y Leverage) ¿Por qué encararon de esa manera la propuesta? -Es verdad el sonido es muy diferente. Mi banda Leverage es mucho más heavy y con considerables toques progresivos, mientras que Circus Maximus, el grupo de Michael, es un mas progresivo que nosotros y hasta más complejo en su propuesta, pero la idea fue simplemente hacer un disco de AOR directo pero a la vez que no perdiera su poder en el sonido. page 1 / 5 Metal Symphony http://www.metalsymphony.com *Siendo tan diferente la propuesta a lo que estáis acostumbrados a componer ¿cómo os lo arreglaron para hacerlo y que el álbum suene tan impactante? -En realidad desde hace mucho tiempo llevo soñando con poder hacer un disco con estas características: bien producido, bien arreglado, melódico pero que a la vez tenga buenas guitarras y con coros pegadizos, es decir, AOR de alta calidad. Por lo que cuando se presentó la posibilidad de trabajar con un cantante tan bueno como Michael no lo dude ni un instante. *¿Fue complicado encarar un trabajo tan diferente? -No lo fue en realidad ya que es un estilo musical con el que estoy familiarizado y conozco. Distinto sería sin me ofrecieron hacer un disco de jazz, quizás ahí si me vería en problemas (risas). *En el disco figuran diferentes compositores como Pekka Heino (Brother Firetribe, Leverage), Tomppa Nikulainen (Brother Firetribre), Tuomas Heikkinen (Leverage), Mats Haugen (Circus Maximus), Kimmo Blom (Urban Tale). ¿Como se acoplaron al proyecto? -Todos ellos son amigos page 2 / 5 Metal Symphony http://www.metalsymphony.com nuestros desde hacer mucho tiempo, por lo que cuando se enteraron que estábamos trabajando en The Magnificent, simplemente se acercaron y comenzaron a ayudarnos, el resultado está a la vista. Estamos muy contentos de poder haber contado con ellos. Cada uno ha logrado aportar su particular estilo como para que el disco suene como lo hace *¿Coincides en que el álbum sostiene su propuesta en el mejor rock melódico de los años ochenta? -Eso es 110 por ciento. Fue la idea inicial inclinarnos hacia ese sonido pero también quisimos actualizarlo y modernizarlo un tanto, hacerlo un poco más directo, duro y que entrara a la primera al oyente, pero sin duda el espíritu del mismo son los sonidos de aquellos años ochenta. *¿Qué nos puedes contar acerca de los planes de Leverage? -Amo a Leverage. Los muchachos en el grupo son excelentes, muy buenos amigos y compañeros, me divierte mucho poder participar y trabajar con ellos. En cuanto a la música es variable pero siempre heavy, algo compleja y por momentos hasta oscura, pero siempre entretenida. Estamos a punto de ponernos a trabajar en las composiciones para el próximo disco que por ahora no tiene fecha segura de salida. *Hay una canción titulada ‘Holding On To Your Love’ que suena muy directa como una mezcla entre Europe y Treat. ¿Qué nos puedes comentar acerca de ella? -Es interesante que la menciones ya que fue el primer tema que compusimos para el disco. Esta canción fue algo complicada pera finalmente logramos que sonara como queríamos, esto significa que el trabajo con la guitarra rítmica fue todo un reto para mí ya que en mi cabeza sonaba de otra manera a la que lograba reproducir con la guitarra, pero con mucho trabajo pude conseguir cuadrar el sonido. Además fue una muy buena opción para abrir el disco con la batería que suena casi como si fuera de power metal, los teclados y los arreglos. page 3 / 5 Metal Symphony http://www.metalsymphony.com *”Cheated By Love” nos recuerda un poco al mítico Vinnie Vincent Invasion con Mark Slaughter en las voces. -Este tema es más orientado al AOR que el anteriormente mencionado. Michael trabajo la estructura de las melodías de la canción. Mi idea original realmente era mala (risas). Fue necesario también algún tiempo para adecuarla y refinarla, me gusta mucho el tempo del tema. *La balada ‘Angel’ tiene ciertos toques de Whitesnake ¿Estás de acuerdo? -El disco ‘1987’ de Whitesnake es uno de mis favoritos desde siempre y, en mi opinión, uno de los mejores compuestos de la historia del hard rock. Es posible que me inclinara a un tema con claras influencias de esta banda, pero nuevamente creo que gracias al trabajo vocal de Michael el tema cobra vida propia. Es pura magia de los ochenta. *Hay algo en el trabajo de las guitarras que recuerda mucho a Yngwie Malmsteen ¿Coincides en esto? -Totalmente. He escuchado y soy seguidor de Yngwie desde el año 1985. El es mi mayor influencia y más grande inspiración además de ser uno de los grandes guitarristas de todos los tiempos. Recuerdo estar en mi casa siendo solo un adolescente practicando y tratando de imitar su estilo a toda hora durante page 4 / 5 Metal Symphony http://www.metalsymphony.com meses y meses. También yo estudie desde temprana edad música clásica por lo que cuando escuche a Malmsteen lo que hacía con su guitarra y música quede muy impresionado. Es por ello que trate de emular un poco de su estilo en varias partes del disco. *¿The Maginificent está pensado como un proyecto a larga duración y con posibilidad de hacer alguna gira o simplemente es un trabajo de estudio? -La idea es que tengamos continuidad y de hecho ya estamos en conversaciones para comenzar a trabajar en una nueva producción debido a la buena respuesta del público con el álbum debut. En cuanto a las giras son muy posibles aunque no creo que sean demasiado prolongadas. Nos interesaría poder llegar a presentarnos en lugares en donde los seguidores de este tipo de música puedan disfrutar de la misma. *¿Hay posibilidades que si The Magnificent no salga de gira utilicéis vosotros algunas de estas canciones en vuestras respectivas bandas? -No lo creo, tanto Leverage como Circus Maximus tienen material de sobra como para sumarles más temas a nuestros set lists o a futuros discos de estudio. *Para concluir, algo mas que quieras comunicar a nuestros lectores? -Simplemente agradecer el apoyo y espero veros en alguno de nuestros shows próximamente.
